    Hello,
    I have 2 questions...

    1. Does anyone here in the upper elementary use the daily 5 in their classrooms? It sounds really interesting. Currently I use SF Reading Street in my reading lessons w/ a 120 minute block for reading.

    2. Has anyone seen the 2 Sisters teach about their CAFE model in person?

It has been suggested to me that I need to do more professional development outside of what our school system provides and I found a conference the 2 Sisters are giving this summer. Before I ask if I can attend, I wanted to find out what you all think. I am sure that I am going to have to present it to my faculty and wanted to find out more about it before I attend.

    Thanks so much!

I use the Daily 5 in 3rd and I really love it. I have made a tracking sheet to go with the areas where my students go in the classroom. I would love to go to a conference to see them.

Do you think it is worth a 6-7 hour drive and $300? I will ask if my school will pay for it, but just want to make sure that it is worthwhile.

I am trying Daily 5 this year, and love it! Others in my district feel the same. I was able to see their conference (both days) in December and they were great!! Probably one of the best conferences I've ever attended. If you get the chance, GO!!

I would go if my district would pay for it. The books are great, but nothing is like first hand information.

I just signed up for their seminar today! They will be here for 2 days and I am paying with my own money since I'm sure my district will nix that idea. There are three of us going- we're going to see if we can use a little PD money at the end of the year to get a little compensation. I have heard great things about their workshops- several of our staff went and will go again with us.

I used it in my 3rd and 1st grade classrooms when I was a classroom teacher (currently in-class support teacher). I would LOVE to see them.

I would HIGHLY recommend seeing the sisters in person. I just saw them for a 1-hour talk about the Daily 5 and a 1-hour talk about CAFE and I learned so much in that little amount of time. They are coming to my district for two 8-hour days (FREE for staff!!!) this summer.

They talked about how to do both the Daily 5 and CAFE with children from kindergarten to high school.
