After 5 years in Kindergarten I was sensing it was time to move on. I asked for and got a high school teaching position.

I LOOOOOVVVVVED teaching Kindy and will never forget the joy (and the challenges and exhaustion) and fun and spiritual satisfaction I got from it.

See you in the HS forum. :thumb:

Congrats! I've taught K for the last 3 years & I'm feeling the need for change. Just waiting to see how things play out. . . Although my change won't be as much as yours, if it happens.

I just left K also after twelve years. My first group of kindergartners will be graduating from high school this year! It was a hard decision because you have to have a special love for K (which I do). Still, I have 20+ years ahead of me in my career and need to see what else is out there.

Congrats! You may find that the years in Kinder have probably helped prepare you for HS. At a workshop many years ago the speaker pointed out that when you look at children ages PK thru up to 6/7 years old (that you know) & follow them thru their teen years, you will see the same behaviors & moods. :eek:hmy: It's amazing how accurate! At the younger ages they are learning discipline, social skills, independence, etc.; as a young teen, they are practicing what they learned, trying to figure out everything while at the same time making it clear that they know all, and those hormones kicking in!!! Anyway, just a thought. lol
Those teens also need the warmth, love, understanding, discipline, patience, and sense of humor that you as an experienced Kinder teacher can certainly offer them. God Bless you in your new position! :hugs:

JlJ: that is soo true! I taught some of the kids that I had had in K in 3rd grade. Some of their behaviors were exactly the same! Scary sometimes!

I am told I can still play my guitar with them. :)

And yes, I have been joking that as far as classroom discipline I don't expect it to be too much different... :p ... and yes, I'll come visit (I'm hoping to visit the K room occasionally with my ukulele)...

We are happy and sad also. Happy because that you got the job in high school and sad because you are leaving kindergarten. Anyways, it is good to know that you have enjoyed teaching kindergarten. Likewise hoping that you'll enjoy HS teaching also. I wish you all the best.
