What do you guys think about this?
For me personally, if I never buy a black car in my life, that's fine w/ me.

Here's a couple of paragraphs from the article if you don't feel like reading it all:

"So buy a black car now, because soon they won’t be available or will look so putrid you won’t want one. And that’s too bad, because paint suppliers say black is the second- or third-most popular vehicle color around the world.

The problem stems from a new “cool paints” initiative from the California Air Resources Board. CARB wants to mandate the phase-in of heat-reflecting paints on vehicle exteriors beginning with the ’12 model year, with all colors meeting a 20% reflectivity requirement by the ’16 model year."

I had a black car and hated it. It got so hot and the paint showed EVERY imperfection!

I do not want a black car. My husband has a white car and I hate that too. Looks dirty all the time. My ideal car color is blue :)

I have a silver car right now. I'm more partial to red, but I couldn't find one in red. I never liked silver before, but I do have to say, it hides the dirt nicely! It's growing on me!

I think it's really smart to get something heat-reflecting. Why didn't I think of that before? Thankfully, my current car is silver.

Living in central Florida, black cars just LOOk hot. My car is silver and I agree that it hides the dirt so well. We were at a restaurant, looking out the front window and every car in the parking lot that we could see was white, beige, or silver. It did look pretty boring.

Here is an update on that part of the legislation... the part about the paint was taken out the latest update was on 3/27/09,
    http://www.arb.ca.gov/cc/cool-paints/cool-paints.htm
If you notice even the name of the regulation has changed.

And "In a statement, ARB said that the intent of the paint requirements was to introduce reflective paint (currently used in architectural paints to keep houses and businesses cool) into the automotive arena. The requirement was never at any point to limit consumer color choices or ban any colors."
    http://www.greencarcongress.com/2009/03/california-arb-defers-regulations-requiring-cool-paint.html

    and snopes: http://www.snopes.com/politics/traffic/darkcars.asp

BUT the person who wrote the original article wouldn't have known that because it was published 3 days before the latest update

I adore my black SUV -- it doesn't look so big! It gets washed every week anyway and looks so good sitting in the sun all clean and polished. Sometimes the government just needs to stay out of our business, especially if they can't handle the load they already have.

My car is orange and I love it! Previously I've had green or an icky maroon. Oh well, Black wasn't my favorite anyway.

I used to own a black Mitsubishi Mirage. I loved that car. I got ahold of bad gas and it ruined the engine.
