    Hello All,

I am scheduled to take the Praxis II Business Education (0100) on August 5. I've starting preparation for the 120 question test and should feel totally confortable by then.

Anyone else taken the Business Ed Praxis?

    Thanks in advance.

    Shawn

    Yes,

Took it 2 years ago. Prepare your written reponses ahead of time & study them. Also, brush up a lot on finance & accounting. The rest is not hard.

Thanks so much for the response. I ordered some pre-made flash cards and will definately go ahead and prepare written responses to them.

Barnes & Noble carries some useful study materials in its SparkCharts: there are SparkCharts for management, marketing, accounting, finance, and assorted relevant computer apps.

another question...the business education test at a glance test format only says multiple choice. How many written response questions are there?

The current version of the Tests at a Glance flyer (http://www.ets.org/Media/Tests/PRAXIS/pdf/0100.pdf) shows that 10100 is a two-hour test with 120 multiple choice questions. Period. There doesn't seem to be another Business Education test offered by Praxis, so presumably there aren't written responses as part of the test. But composing one's own plausible constructed response questions and then answering them is a fine way to study.

I'm also taking the Praxis II Business Education exam on the 5th. A little nervous but I bought ETS's study guide and I think it was pretty helpful. Hopefully we'll PASS!

You takers of business Praxis could use this thread to kick around questions and answers based on the material being tested - that's a pretty good way to study. And, heck, your discussion could help a taker of a single subject social science test, too. (EVERYthing connects.)

    Hello All,

I'm happy to report that I received a passing score on the Praxis II Business Education (0100). I definately appreciate all of the tips. It was 120 m/c questions, there were no essays.

Congratulations! I am very interested to hear how you think the exam was as far as difficulty and did it seem to focus on any one area of business? I am in the process of finishing my degree and will have to take this Praxis soon. I am registered to take the Praxis PLT 7-12 on Saturday and I'm just now becoming nervous about it too. It is nice to see that others are in this speciality area also, there aren't alot of us at the college that I attend. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

The 0100 Business Education exam was broken into 5 sections:

    I. United States Economic Systems 12 10%
    II. Money Management 17 14%
III. Business and Its Environment 13 11%
IV. Professional Business Education 24 20%
    V. Processing Information 20 17%
VI. Offi ce Procedures and Management,
Communications, and Employability Skills 17 14%
VII. Accounting and Marketing 17 14%

The percentage is the percentage of the test that section covers. If you are coming just out of college, you should have no problem. I have been out of college 3 years and I hadn't forgotten the material.

Wishing you the best of luck.

If you haven't already done so, download the Tests at a Glance guide, which lays out in somewhat more detail than tp2's post above what it is that the test covers.

SparkCharts, sold by Barnes & Noble, are useful laminated review sheets; there are SparkCharts for micro- and macroeconomics, finance, accounting, and a number of well-known business software packages. For areas in which you feel the need of more prep, find out which books are being used in relevant classes at your local high school or community college.

Thanks; I will look into these flash cards.
The problem I am facing is that my education is not from US, the exact course that matches my education is Praxis exam 0910, {Social Science Economics}. But NJ does not have this course in NJ Schools. So the closest to this course is Business Economics Exam 10100.

I know some body who just did a chemistry test. She read to books & came out of the test so happy. I was hopping for similar books.

SparkCharts aren't flashcards. They're more like study guides. You'll find them in any Barnes & Noble on a big wire revolving rack near the test-preparation materials.

If your grounding in world history is good - and the chances are that it's not bad - you might want to try for the credential in social studies. Whatever preparation you've done for the US citizenship exam will help a great deal with US history (for which there are also two fine SparkCharts, not to mention many other resources that you'll find in threads on CSET Social Science). And eventually, if your strength is in economics, you might perhaps be able to introduce an economics class at your school.

I took the test cold as an add-on cert and passed with a 660. It wasn't that hard, there were a couple of questions that required a calculator and a bunch of really generic tech questions (i.e. "You need to keep track of a number of addresses. What is the best application to use? a. spreadsheet b. database c. word processor d. presentation").

I agree with teachergroupie, take whatever tests you feel you have a chance to pass. My primary cert is in English (BA in English, minor in History, followed by an M.Ed.) but I also took the Social Studies PRAXIS and did well, and because of my tech backgtround, I took the Business & Comp Tech PRAXIS and passed that as well. There is also quite a bit of technology crossover in the Tech Ed PRAXIS, so I took that last month and am currently awaiting the results. Next I will probably take the Communications PRAXIS, and sometime after that, I'll start the coursework for a Reading Specialist certification. The only bummer is the expense of taking ETS exams, it really angers me to have to pay a "registration fee" for every test that I take since I'm already in their system.

Multiple certs will definitely get you noticed, principals and administrators really appreciate the extra flexibility that you bring to their school.

    Pete

    Flash Cards?

    Hi all,

I am also attempting to prepare for the Business Education exam in order to teach secondary school Computer Applications. However, although I have been teaching computer classes for nearly 20 years, it has also been 20+ years since I graduated from college. Not only do I not remember most of the material that will be tested, there is quite a bit that I never even learned in school, so here's my question.....I am considering ordering some flash cards that I found on the web. Am I allowed to name the company?....because I'd
like to know if anyone else has used these same flash cards and whether or not they helped. This particular company also sells a study guide, but I don't want to spend the money for both and think the flash cards might be more useful.

If any of you has purchased/used these items, you may have an idea as to the company to which I am referring. Thanks for any insight!

There's no such thing as the one resource that works well for everyone, so in the ordinary course of things one expects someone somewhere to have panned a particular resource. If a Web search reveals no such feedback, either the resource is a very new thing, or perhaps the negative feedback is getting squelched.

True.....I just need somewhere to begin as I have no textbooks from which to study. Are these SparkCards a good representation of what's on the test, i.e., what we need to know in order to pass?

Are SparkCharts a good representation of what is on a specific Praxis exam? No, of course they're not. That's not what they're designed for - it would be way too small a niche.

What you can and should do is use the Tests at a Glance document for 0100 to identify the range of things you need to know for 0100; supplement that with your state's content standards for business education, which (if they exist yet) should be on the state department of education Web site. Then go to resources such as SparkCharts, the For Dummies series and others like it, and the Internet for the details.

Yes, it's more work than using a specialized test prep resource. But the payoff is that you'll sharpen your knowledge of the concepts more effectively this way, which will better equip you to impart those concepts - and those research skills - to your future students.

I'm scheduled for the August 4th, 2007 exam...

    Hi All,

I am scheduled for the August 4th, 2007 exam -- just a few weeks away. I have downloaded the "Test at a Glance", but I was wondering if anybody had any luck finding "sample tests" or helpful web sites that I could use.

I have some "test anxiety" issues  and, although I have been teaching for several years, if I have not practiced these subjects since college.

I'm pretty sure that I will be okay, but I am supporting a wife and 4 children on a teachers salary in Tennessee, so taking the test multiple times is not my first choice. :(

    Thanks for any help!

    Robert

Try using your favorite search engine (mine is now http://us.ixquick.com) to look for help with the concepts. There's probably at least one professional association for teachers of business that will have some help. The SparkCharts mentioned above can be very useful, if you see that they correlate with what the exam requires; SparkCharts and SparkNotes are both Barnes & Noble products, and B&N stores as a class are pretty forgiving when it comes to browsing. Answers.com is a wonderful tool for quickly looking up a concept.

As for the test anxiety, if yours is severe, it might make sense to see a psychologist - there are some relatively quick therapies, including but by no means limited to self-hypnosis, that can help. You may also find that a workout with LearningExpress's nifty Reading Comprehension Success in 20 Minutes a Day will help.

Sharing study guides and such with each other?

I am just beginning the process of putting together materials for my TWO Praxis II exams on August 4th (Geography 0920 and Business 0100). I would love to exchange resources if others are working on the same kinds of things.

My address is www itouchthefuture com. (I removed the dots in case it causes a link problem)

    Thanks!

There's also the matter of sharing here on A to Z: if someone has good resources that aren't under copyright, or would like to launch a "sticky thread" with Web resources and the like (see the "Useful Web resources" threads for examples), there are ways to do that...

In fact there's much to be said for making one's own flash cards... or at least annotating existing ones very heavily.
