bulletin board letters

Hello everyone,

I was setting up my classroom today & needed to find some letters for a bulletin board heading. Well, I've been teaching for 6 years now & have collected quite a few sets of letters! I have shiny ones, I have xmas themed ones, I have bright colors, and plain colors.

I was wondering, does anyone have a good idea for storing these letters? I thought, maybe mix all the colors/themes up & put all A's in a baggie, all B's i a baggie since whenever i need a letter I have to pour out all of the letters to find the a or the b or whatever letter I need. Right now, I put each set (like all of my gold shiny lettters) in a baggie. I have 15 or so baggies of letters. I know there's another more clever way of storing these.

Any ideas? Thanks!!

I think I read in a Mailbox magazine once where they said you can set up a binder with clear plastic sheet protectors inside. You put a piece of cardstock in each sheet protector so it won't be flimsy, and then put each letter in a different sheet protector.

Another idea could be to get one of those index card holder boxes. They usually come with dividers. You could put each letter in a different divider section.

I like the idea of using the index card box. I think the sheet protectors would be tedious because you'd have to dig in each to pull out the letter you want.
Thank you for the index box suggestion. I think I'll be using that!

Ooh yes cinaminsweet. The index card box sounds great. I have one laying around w/the dividers. I'll try that. Great idea. :)

Every now and then Target $1 Spot has photo organizers - little accordian packets. I use those. One for each style of letter. Then I can but the A/Bs in on section and so on. Unfortunately, the get pretty stuffed.

I think I like the index card holder better though. I might have to rethink my set up!

Although I'm not teaching yet, I've got a rather large collection already. It would bother me greatly to have to sort out each letter for the right theme, so this is what I do. I put the letters in Alphabetical order by theme/type and paper clip them then place them in a baggie. I will use all of my italic black letters in one bag, but paper clip them in alphabetical order.

I have never thought about the photo album idea, but I think I like it more! I don't have any experience, so I'm sure my 2 cents is looked at saying "yeah, that works the first time" but I just wanted to add it anyways. Maybe you could vary it?
