Hi! I will be switching to 4th grade next year and thanks to my 6yo dd, have decided to do a bug theme. I have all kinds of plastic bugs and borders, and a few ideas already. I'm just curious as to your ideas.
    So far I have:
Mrs. N is buggy for her new collection of fourth graders (or similar)
Over my reading center- "What type of books do you collect" (genre study)

I usually have some sort of welcome pack waiting for them on the first day, and I'd love it to tie in with school and my theme. Besides just giving bug pencils and erasers, I'd love for the "container" ie bug collector to some how be useful too. Any ideas? :help:

    :thanks:

    -The Reading BUG RUGs!
Have rugs at a corner where students can go sit and do quiet reading.
    -HUGs 4 BUGs
Every time a child does something nice, stamp a chart with a HUG stamp next to their name. When they get 17(#?) hug stamps, they can get a reward; whatever you may have in a " BUG HUG BOX" that you decorate and label. The box can have pencils, erasers, little story books, rulers, flash cards, or anything that parents can donate., etc.
    I'll have more later on.

I always have loved the We Caught the Learning Bug.

Also, how big our your bug collectors? Could they store nice comments to each other, writing ideas, classroom rewards (tickets, money, etc)?

Thanks, Rebel1- I checked out the room I'll be using (which is the same one I had when I taught 3rd) and realized I will have 3 rugs to use. I may have to use the Bug Rug idea.

I got a whole bag of bug collectors at Home Depot one year. It was one of their crafts for kids. You might see if they have any left.

    Wow! Thanks, amyt!
That site had great ideas. I'm glad to see the Being Unusually Good ]citizenship idea, because that one popped into my head the other day.
