Just out of curiosity, which do you do?

I do both. I do a quick, not-as-intensive brushing w/ a tad of toothpaste BEFORE breakfast (to get that morning taste out of my mouth). Then, I do a more thorough brushing AFTER eating breakfast. I'm not much of a breakfast person & don't eat breakfast 4 or 5 mornings out of the week though. My BF just brushes AFTER eating.

I guess you could say I brush before breakfast because I don't really eat a breakfast anyway. I brush when I get up in the morning, but don't eat anything until my prep which is in the late morning. That usually consists of a Nutrigrain bar at my desk.

    Both.

I brush as soon as I get up because I can't stand morning mouth. Then I brush after breakfast because I can't stand after eating mouth.

I brush before. That's because I always at breakfast at work. I brush my teeth at home.

Are you saying 4 or 5 mornings a week your teeth don't get an intensive brushing? That doesn't sound good for your teeth and gums. You might want to consider intensive morning brushing because you don't do the after eating brushing most days of the week. Poor dental hygiene can lead to heart problems based on new research.

    :(

If you think it's silly, don't answer. Why judge something that is in the Time Out section? This makes me sad.

I brush before breakfast and eat at work. On the weekend I brush after breakfast. I never thought to brush both times, but it does make sense.

Then you must have misread her post. She said, "just out of curiosity" so she answered your question

My theory strengthens - ANY thread on this forum can turn into a case study into the dramatics. ;)

I've got to admit: I wondered what prompted this as well. There's got to be a great backstory.

I am by no means trying to add dramatics. I took what Upsadaisy said in a judgmental way. Clearly I am the only one who thought that so I apologize. No offense or dramatics intended.

I brush my teeth right before I leave my house in the morning whether I've eaten breakfast or not. I can't stand a minty taste when I'm drinking coffee or eating anything. I was forced to brush my teeth before breakfast one time when I was a kid and then my grandmother gave me a bagel with cream cheese. I told her it tasted spoiled and spit it out LOL It was probably just the toothpaste I tasted. Since then I will never eat after I've brushed my teeth.

Nope, I agree with you. I took it the same way.

I remember my teacher asked this of us in elementary school and I was the only one that brushed my teeth before! I can't stand waiting until after breakfast!

No, I'm saying that although I don't eat breakfast most of the week, the days I DO eat breakfast, that means I brush 2xs: quick AND intensive & the mornings I don't eat breakfast, it's just the intensive because if I didn't eat that morning, there's no need to do the quick brush at first. Sorry you misunderstood.

Right sue35! And you have no need to apologize. :) Plus, I get the feeling that if certain other posters started this thread, certain others wouldn't ask why, but just simply not post.

I don't know why, but I HAVE to brush my teeth before I eat. If not, my food tastes like whatever I'm eating mixed with morning breath. Yuck.

My best friend is the exact opposite. Whenever we'd have sleepovers as kids, then teens and in college, she ALWAYS ate first then brushed her teeth because she says tooth paste makes orange juice taste weird.

Admittedly she's right, so I normally just take a bite of food first to kinda prep my tongue, then I guzzle my OJ.

EDIT: I just read back some of the posts and I don't see anything wrong with Ms. I's topic. She was just asking a silly, random question in the chat forum. I thought it was funny and fun to answer. We ask random questions of each other all the time at work.

I like questions like this because everyone always assumes everyone does the same thing as them OR they think they're the only one in the world that does something and then you find out others do the same. :)

I guess I don't notice any weird morning taste in my mouth in the morning. I brush my teeth, floss, and sometimes brush my tongue before bed so maybe that helps.

Allergies, congestion, reflux, and open mouth night breathing can all cause morning mouth. I do the same as you at night plus the use of Listerine. There are times one of the things listed above will cause me to get morning mouth.

    Nope.

I brush before because I don't like to eat until I've been awake a few hours.

I brush afterwards. Too tired to brush before and after and I've never had a weird taste in my mouth upon waking up anyways.

I brush first thing after I get out of bed. It is habit at this time. I think it is because I am not likely to remember to brush my teeth if I don't do it then. I figure it is better to brush before than not brush at all in the morning.
