We don't have colour printers at school so that's not an option for me--guess I'll have to bite the bullet!

    These are fabulous, katenar!

OK. I just printed them out at school for my team. So now you know that there is an entire 5th grade team in Georgia that is using your creations.

How do I ask this? Is there anyway you could make for some poor rural Southern teachers just one little teeny tiny poster on imagery? We are all type A personalities and want it to match the literary devices you already created. We don't have to teach palindromes or oxymorons (which is a good thing because I think we could get in a lot of trouble with that one). But the state did give us imagery...using the senses to create vivid pictures.

If you can't, it's not a problem. We'll tell them to use imagery to imagine another poster. :)

    Thank you for sharing. :hugs:

No problem - I'm a type A myself!! It won't take me long and I'll post it tonight when I'm home. Do you use these words when teaching:

Visual imagery - something seen in the mind's eye
Auditory imagery - represents a sound
    Olfactory imagery - a smell
    Gustatory imagery - a taste
Tactile imagery - touch, for example hardness, softness, wetness, heat, cold
Organic imagery - internal sensation: hunger, thirst, fatigue, fear
Kinesthetic imagery - movement or tension

If so, I'll set the poster up like this:

    imagery
using the senses to create vivid pictures

Visual imagery - something seen in the mind's eye
Auditory imagery - represents a sound
    Olfactory imagery - a smell
    Gustatory imagery - a taste

Kinesthetic imagery - movement or tension

I create all my posters in Word or PowerPoint. I want to buy Printshop but for the Mac it's like $60. But I think I will in the fall. Imagine what I will be able to create!!!!

Thank you everyone for your kind words!! I'm glad you like the posters and I am always happy to share. :2up:

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

And no, we don't have to get into it too much. We teach them about using the senses to create a picture in the reader's mind. Or that the author of a piece has used imagery to convey a certain mood. Langston Hughes and William Carlos Williams do/did this a lot in their poetry.

We teach them to use it in writing, and to recognize its use in writing and poetry.

Thank you so much! They ended up looking very colorful. One of my teammates said she was going to put the oxymoron sign by her time out desk. But she was joking. (I think.) We were so tired this afternoon and sitting in one teacher's room just joking and laughing.

The imagery poster is absolutely beautiful. I wish you were right around the corner so that I could buy you lunch! I have got to figure out how to post my creations.

But here's my only gift that I can send right now.

They are just awesome! I tried to show everyone at work- but my school thinks your site is a spam site for some reason.

I have a question though- I have tried to print your other 2 new sets of posters (the reading strategies and literary elements), but they do not fit on the screen (they are cut off). Am I doing something wrong? Thanks!

Oh great - I probably didn't center them. Sorry but you'll have to wait about a week until I'm back home (I'm at my summer camp job). I'll let you know when I have fixed it.
