So closing went smoothly, and now I own a house!

I had a "Shew, that's all over" feeling for about 2 minutes, and now I am back to "OMG there is so much to do!"

I want to send my realtor something because he was amazing and we love him like a member of the family now. Any suggestions?

Our realtor is a Harley rider, so we gave him a gift card to their store for Christmas. Does he/she have a hobby? Maybe a bottle of wine or a dinner out?

Congrats!!! I'm not sure what would be a good gift though. I'm never good with that sort of thing.

Actually when I purchased my last home my real estate agent sent me a gift for using her services. It was a wrought iron wheel barrel planter with the most beautiful flowering basket. I had never seen anything like it before. I still use the planter. A gift certificate to a local restaurant would be a thoughtful gift.

    Congrats!!!

Around here the realtor generally sends the new home owner a gift, my son and his wife received a beautiful Waterford crystal vase & two Waterford candle holders from theirs. The realtor makes plenty on commission. I guess customs might be different around here.

Realtors get compensated quite nicely...he should be sending YOU a gift. My realtors have taken me and DH to lunch, sent a bottle of champagne home with us after the closings, had big houseplants delivered....(I've bought and sold a few times)...the best gift you can give is a referral to your friends who are house-shopping. :2cents:

He did give us a really nice leather portfolio for the house and he had really nice New Home/Address cards made up for us, with a picture of the house and everything on them.

I agree about his commission - I am sure he gets plenty. But this is more personal. We absolutely love this guy. We told him we didn't want to settle on a house because it meant we couldn't go out looking for houses with him once a week. He had a great personality and a great sense of humor - he allowed us to be very honest when we walked into the house, and he joked around with us. Knowing that I am from out of town, he has made me feel very welcome by inviting me to go to some town events with him. He was a lifeline when things went bad with our credit because of a mistake - he really talked me through that, even when I was crying on the phone to him. I want to get him something that shows our appreciation for his help. I truly think he went above and beyond the job.

I think a gift certificate and a card displaying your appreciation is a great thank you gift.

Any chance you'd post a picture of your house? Totally understand if you'd rather not...

    I know that feeling!

I still remember literally sweating and shaking while signing all those papers and handing over that big downpayment check. Then I was really, really excited because I'd just bought a house all by myself. And then I had the "OMG!" moment again once I opened the door and stood there in the empty house wondering where to start first.

    Congratulations!

I didn't give my realtor a gift, but I did recommend him to people who were house hunting.

Congratulations!! I never sent or received any gifts with the 2 home purchases I've made. My son and daughter in law just bought a house, and the realtor took them and the seller out for supper. I would consider a treat basket for everyone in the office. The receptionist put alot into making the sale happen to. Refering others to a good realtor is worth a million.
