I'm hoping to start interning this year and was wondering if there are any good books out there about: intentional teaching, classroom management, new teachers, etc.

I walked into B&N the other and was overwhelmed by all of the educational theory books. Any recommendations are much appreciated! :)

I am doing my student teaching this fall, and one book I have read and worked through during classroom management is the CHAMPS (classroom mngt). Many teachers swear by this, and it is very similar to Harry Wong. After reading it, I feel much more confident about mngt.

Teachers get a discount for B&N!!!

What grade level will you teach?? If you are interested in the primary grades..you may want to consult Natl Association for Education of Young Children (NAEYC) You can become a student member, and get discount on great publications. They help define policies and procedures for preschool, NAEYC accreditation, and what is developmentally appropriate. You will also get a monthly journal, Young Child!

go to the customer service desk and ask for one!

be sure you have a copy of your offer letter, last months' checkstub, or some ID that identifies your postion. If you can, get your federal tax exempt letter too.

Yes CHAMPS is great! and I attended a 2 day workshop during the school year and got the book for free. I used many of the techniques in the book and my class ran smoothly. Of course there will always be those 1 or 2 kids that don't always fit the mold of the class, but I was happy with my classroom management.

Also, for centers. Be sure to check out Debbie Diller's Literacy Work Stations and her other books about guided reading. Here is the website for Debbie Diller.
