I was wondering if anybody has a good first day book besides "First Day Jitters" because I am looping with my class and I don't want everything to be the same. Thank you for any suggestions.

How about Oh, the Places You'll Go! I know most people use it at the end of the year, but it would be a great way to kick off the new year as well.

    Which grade are you teaching?

I am going to actually begin a chapter book on the first day this year... No Talking by Andrew Clements. :)

    4th Grade books to read

If you are still teaching 4th grade (I looked at your profile), start 4th Grade Rats...or, even better, Flying Solo. I did an entire unit with Flying Solo at the beginning of my last year teaching 4th. It was one of the best units I did all year. It had a lot about students and behavior, making judgments, etc.

I know its not what you were looking for exactly. You want a first day, one-day read aloud.

Read Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon

I'm reading Wilma Unlimited. It's an awesome book! We'll talk about what it means to be "unlimited" and then write goals. I figured this would tie in well since they Olympics will be going on at the same time.

LOVE STAND TALL, MOLLY LOU MELON!!!! One of my favorite books, just because of the illustrations, the message in the book and every child can make a connection to her. I read it every year during the first few days.
