Can anyone give me some titles of good children's mystery books? I'd like to pick up several from the library to bring in to school and need some help picking some out. The books could be chapter or picture books. I just want a wide variety and my searches are not bringing up much. TIA! :) Happy New Year!

Carole Marsh books are good. She has several set in different states. I'm in CA so I got The Gosh Awful! Gold Rush Mystery and The Mystery on the California Mission Trail.

Also my 4th graders enjoyed Encyclopedia Brown.

    Blue Balliett

If you want to stretch your kids a bit, try Chasing Vermeer, Wright 3, or The Calder Game by Blue Balliett. All are mysteries that also teach about the art world.

If you just want lists of books to ponder, without the nice commentary of Carol Hurst's site, go to bookwizard.scholastic.com and use the quick search feature for mysteries. I did a quick look for you and there were about 125 mystery titles for 4th interest level.

My 3rd graders are loving Cam Jansen books right now :) There's also a series called "Invisible Inc." that one of my reading groups is excited about too!

Picture Book: The Eleventh Hour is a good one
Chapter books: Dead man at Indian Creek, Peppermints in the Parlor, and The Ghost of Windy Hill are all good ones. The last one might be out of print. I still have my copy from when I was a kid.
