What book would you recommend to read to your class on the first day of school???
First Day Books
I use "First Day Jitters," " Mr. Peabody's Apples," and "Have YOu Filled A bucket Today?"
I like Don't laugh at Me and then we play the song after we read the book. You could do Worried Wimberly.
I love First Day Jitters.
I read the book, Thank You, Mr. Falker by Patricia Polacco and loved it. The book approaches learning disabilities in a gentle way.
Just picked up a book called "Don't Say that Word" by Katz & Catrow; basically a rhyme on every page that would end with words like booger, burp, poop etc. but is instead replaced with the mother saying, "Don't say that word". I'm sure the kids will get a kick out of it but I plan to use it as a springboard for words I don't wish to hear in the class ("shut up, loser, sucks" etc.).
"The War" by Anais Vagelaude is another good one - about a boy who brings warring kingdoms together and makes everyone happy.

I'm going to Chapters later today and I'll have to look for that one.
Haha I love the titles of those books. Needless to say being English means I have not heard of them.....I would probably read A fresh start for Bailey to my children .
