Right now I have one of those chart storage boxes (tall, wide, not too deep) with a lid and divider things inside to keep all of the big books in. It only fits the ones that came with the room. It's too full to add my own to. I think to say it has seen better days is a bit of an understatement.:eek:

I don't have the money personally or from school to buy the big book storage things I'm finding. So, I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions for something fairly inexpensive that I won't have to replace in 4 years.

What do you all use for big book storage?

    :thanks:

gee; I wish I could help you out...but I don't have any big books; I ordered a big Nursery Rhyme chart from Scholastic and kept the box that it came in for some of the BB items; maybe you could find a big flat used box at Walmart (freebie). One of my coworkers has boxes like this where she stores her BB.
Last year, I splurges and bought 2 of those boxes from a Teacher Store. It was really worth it.

I have saved the flat boxes that the big books I bought came in... I'm up to about 8 (Scholastic Bonus Points :2up:) But even those are getting a bit unruley....

I hadn't thought about using them for BB storage though! Good idea!!! Thanks!!! :) :thanks:

I have two small bookcases...I keep my big books between them. Not the prettiest but it works!

Try a retail fixture/display store. I'm thinking of wire shelves that some stores use to display things like posterboard.

I have the big rubbermaid totes for mine. I think it is 20 gallons and was less than $10.00. I need a bigger one b/c some of the books do not fit in there too well and we just got new ones for our new reading series.

I used an extra large rubbermaid tub to store big books not being used. The top became the listening center. Big books at a center were stored in a plastic garbage can (rectanle) which was easy to take out books and put away.

Last year I stored mine in a plastic laundry hamper similar to this:

I got mine at Wal-Mart. It did not have a lid and was wide enough for all my books. Mine had four wheels and I could easily move it around the room.

Sorry I couldn't find an exact picture!

don't forget to check out Dollar Tree! I was there earlier and picked up 2 small crates - perfect for CDs! I'm going back in a few minutes to get 2 more! They're perfect! :)

I made a third trip to that place and purchased a total of 8 small crates!!

Ok, I'm back from Big Lots. :) Loved today's 10% teacher discount.

I got a 22 gal. clear sterilite tub (ON WHEELS :2up:) for $9 to put my big books in. I got a "kitchen organizer" for $2.70 (it reminds me of the wire rack things that divide file folders on desks... but heavy duty) to put inside it to make going through the books easier and to help them stay upright. It is rectangular so my widest big book will fit! Thanks soooooo much for all of your help!

(And I will be hitting up the dollar store on Monday, but that's for organization of supply stuff for my students!)

    :):thanks:
    Thanks again!
