I'd like to have a way that I can give students text to read and they can then record themselves reading while saving to a mobile device or computer. I'd be able to access their readings at a later time to monitor fluency, areas of difficulty, etc. plus have a record of their reading from the beginning to the end.

Any suggestions on what all I'd need to get something like this started? I have an iPad and 4 macs, but don't know what app or software I'd need. Is there something free I can use?

RAZ Kids. Or just a basic recording app from the App Store.
