I've taught the last 2 years without a good set of wooden blocks and I want to remedy that this year. I'd like to get a big enough set that my small class of 10 can really enjoy them. I want a set that has variety. I, of course, want the set to be good quality and not too expensive.
The choices are pretty overwhelming! Help!

Standard set of wood unit blocks are my favorite. Back to school is the best time to purchase them.

Barclay Blocks (http://www.barclaywoods.com/) are very nice. It's a big set, hardwood, completely safe (no chemicals), and made in Indiana - practically next door to you.

When I started, my classroom had a few assorted blocks from different sets and they weren't mathematically comparable to each other. Drove me crazy! I got the standard unit block set from Lakeshore as well as a rolling storage cart marked with pictures for each block. Love it!

I think I am block queen at this point - I must have about every type imaginable.

The favorites of the kids at the moment are the sparkle blocks and refillable window blocks from Discount School Supply and the favorite, favorite are the magnatiles.

Melissa and Doug makes a nice set. AC Moore carries M&D and you can use a 50% off coupon that they frequently email.
