Another post got me thinking...I know teaching at the school I'm at isn't my long term goal. I need something closer to home, and I'd love something with flexibility since DH and I are building our family. I'm also a freelance photographer, so the ability to plan my schedule is quite enticing.

Those who are educational therapists (maybe even in CA) how did you decide to get into that field, and what steps need to be taken/advice would you give to someone interested in possibly moving away from the classroom?

In a nutshell it's similar to a resource specialist or learning specialist. The ones at our school are basically independent contractors, so they charge what they want, and have clients outside of school as well as getting clients through school and through our programs we offer to students with IEPs from public school. (I'm in a private school in LA)

Maybe it's similar to an educational psychologist?

At the public schools here in California, the Resource Specialists are credentialed in special education. The ones in my district also have their multiple subjects credential.

I've never heard of an education therapist. Can you give more background in what services they provide, or websites that would help understand what an Ed therapist does?
