Okay, it has to be posted. I've been having back-to-school nightmares for the past 3 weeks, and I /know/ I'm not the only one! If you have any incredibly horrid nightmares, please share! I've always wondered about the different horror themes that other teachers get!

Latest nightmare (Aug 1... 8 days until school)

I go to school and meet with the principal. (actually it's more like I'm in a crummy restaurant office with a guy from my church...but my brain knew that it was /supposed/ to be the school and the guy was /supposed/ to be the principal. Are dreams lazy or what?)
I'm standing there being "talked to" when the principal suddenly tells me that they've decided to not hire me for 3rd grade but that I'm going to work at the high school for the remainder of the school year.

That dream made me cry. (Theme: wrong grade)

Oh yeah... this is my 2nd year of teaching and I'm having the dreams all over again.

I had my first one for this school year the other day. I was picking up my (new) class from specials on the first day at 2:30. They started walking back to the classroom b/c I sent them on, but I got distacted because I saw some of my students from the past school year (not even possible considering I moved 1000 miles away) and I was visiting with them.

Suddenly, the school dismissal bell went off (meaning it was 3:30!) and I had left my class unattended for an hour! I started running back to the room, it took forEVER, and then I was trying to duck below the windows and doors so the principal wouldn't see that I wasn't in my room, when I see parents walking through the school to go pick up their students from my room. I was so worried they were going to walk in and see a mad chaos from leaving my class unattended for that long!

I finally made it back and there were 2 women in there subbing for me. The women explained that the principal called them and said it was an emergency, the teacher left and was nowhere to be found. They also said I was fired and one of them would be taking over for me for the remainder of the year. Boy was I soooo relieved when I woke up and found out it was just a dream.

I had another shortly after that, it was the first day of school and I had absolutely no control over my class. They couldn't even hear me when I was yelling to get their attention. I hate these kinds of nightmares!!

I keep having dreams of the first day of school. Me being unprepared and the kids being out of control are usually the topics. I hate those dreams. Why can't there be any nice teaching dreams?? Haha.

I had a surreal dream this summer. I remember my principal saying to me, "I can't believe you are going to stop here, instead of further your studies." I was quite suprised by this because I just completed a Masters program and then became a First Year Teacher. When I graduated I told myself that I wouldn't do anymore higher ed until I paid off the $48, 000 that I owe the government! But why this dream? It was the last thing on my mind.

My school dreams started on July 1 instead of August 1 this year. Argh! The one I remember most vividly is one where I had my classroom all set up and when I went in on the first day, my room had been completely emptied. No furniture, no supplies, nothing! I went to my principal, and all she said was "Make it work!" Yeesh!

I always have dreams before school starts that I forget to show up! I might just sort of disappear during the school day and not get my kids from lunch while the whole school angrily looks for me, or I might not show up at all. Often it is like I am TRYING to get to school or to my students, but I just cannot make it. Thankfully, no dreams yet this year....BUT I have had so many other stresses that i am sure they will come closer to the new year (Sept. 5).

I had a couple of weird dreams earlier in July, but my brain seems to have settled down since I've been able to get moved into my new classroom.

The first was that someone (the school nurse) had decided that each teacher should be assigned a different "classroom theme" that we had to incorporate into our decor. MINE, of course was "the medical profession: Nurses" (I can still see that typed on the memo we all got telling us our theme!!!) So most of the dream was trying to think of where in the world I would find helper cut-outs and bulletin boards with nurses on them!

The second dream was that I arrived to school late for our Open House and my classroom was filled to the brim (in addition, my classroom was twice the size of my regular room). All these people, kids...parents....grandparents....etc... were sitting/standing around the room, and I walk in with my hands full of "stuff" (even my big glass of tea!!!) just like it was a regular work day. I had NO copies made of the handouts for them, I had not prepared anything...I guess I just expected to "wing it". ROFL!!!

I had my first dream last night.. I was going in and out of the dream and it was all over the road. The biggest part I remember was doing math mat's with the kids, and I am sure that is because I have been trying to find as many FREE ideas as I can since I have spent so much already this summer.

The night tremors haven't started yet- I imagine they will in a week. I always have the nightmare that my alarm clock doesn't work, I wake up with just enough time to get to school (no time for shower, getting dressed, etc.). And I spend the rest of the dream trying to get to school. Usually I have no transporation and I walk.

Well since I don't have a job yet my dreams have been focused more on that.

A couple of nights ago I had a dream that I was back in college and the principal of the school I am trying to get a job at is the professor. She asks me a question about the reading and I have no clue what to say because I didn't read it. Then it turns into me crying at home saying that the principal told me I would never get a job because she is going to tell all the other principals about me.

I am sure if I get a job soon then they will all turn into dreams about my room instead.

I had my first dream last night. I was teaching some unknown grade (2nd or 3rd maybe) in a different school. Kids were coming in only partially prepared if at all. Two did not show up. I was in the wrong room. There was so much confusion I did not get attendance done. Just something like organized chaos. I didn't remember to teach all the procedures and rules until about 3 days in. I had them doing all sorts of cutesy things to fill time.

Wow, it's no wonder we all have these nightmares. For one thing we are are working with KIDS and another is that we are responsible for managing the behavior of so many other human beings. What was I thinking when I decided to be teacher:confused: (just kidding)

Most of the dreams I have involve me telling off students in a way that I would NEVER really do in the classroom. My husband has asked me mnay mornings if I was dreaming about telling him off or one of the students. The students in my dream are never ones that I actually know, which is strange.

LOL. Actually, in my dreams ....I mean nightmares, I am teaching high schoolers when in fact I am middle school cert.
Though I have subbed high school a lot, but they weren't really bad kids. In my nightmares they are real terrors.
