I'm looking for an example of a Back to School Parent letter. It's my first year teaching a self-contained 6-8th grade class. It's not a life skills class. The kids are just super low academically. There are a few with Autism, most are LD. I'm not sure what to say or how these work! Also, is this where I mention supplies they should have? I'm thinking a 3 ring binder with dividers for classwork, a pencil box, pencils, paper, and a box of tissue. Does this sound right? Am I missing anything? As a resource teacher I didn't need to do this because the kiddos had a general ed. teacher and they just came to me for support. This is all new to me!
Thanks for any help you can provide!

Does the district supply pens/pencils, etc?
Do you use white boards? request expo markers
Do you have markers, crayons, colored pencils?
    Homework books or agendas?
Folders? labels, big erasers, scissors, highlighters, index cards

Keep in mind, your kids might have trouble with organization, a binder might be hard for them...

    (8) pocket folders (they are 15 cents a piece... so this is not a lot to ask for) -- these are great for work systems (see e-mail/p.m. from me)

Ziplock bags (good for storage of activities, materials, supplies)

    Construction paper (for projects)

Magazines (can be optional, but parents can send old magazines, they are GREAT for projects)
