I will be student teaching in a few months and my wife is also after me to stop going to bed at 3 or 4 in the morning!!! So I know the feeling. I am trying to ease into it myself.

I make a point of trying to be up by 6:00, so I can leave the house by 6:30. The kids aren't allowed in the building until 7:10, but I really enjoy having a few moments of quiet in my office before the hordes descend (not to mention I prefer beating the student traffic...that gets pretty horrendous after 7:00).

Because I am SUCH a pleasure in the morning pre-caffeine, my husband bought me a Mr. Coffee with a timer for our bathroom (Has a long vanity with room for 2 sinks but we only had one installed). I have the coffee start brewing at 5:30, drink coffee and read or listen to news until 6 or so, then get up. It takes 30-40 to get to work, and we have to be there by 7:30.

As for going to bed -- usually between 9-10, but I read for a while before going to sleep.

So with waking up so early, 6 or so I'll need some help. I'm not a big coffee drinker, I prefer going to a deli or 7-11 and getting a hot chocolate/cappuccino mix or once a week I'd go to Starbucks. However, now that I've moved to NC there is ONE, yes one Starbucks in the whole county and it's inside a Target so it doesn't open until 8, unlike normal Starbucks which open @ 5. By 8, I'll have been teaching for almost an hour.

I'm so disappointed. However, the my school does have an awesome coffee machine, so I can still get a cappuccino but it's not the same as Starbucks. I'll jsut need to learn to adapt. But gosh, it's hard.

WOW! I really can't believe how early some of you start school - - 7.00! Here in England, every school I know of starts somewhere between 8.30 - 9.00 and finishes 3.00 - 4.00. I get to school at 8 (kids are there 8.45 - 3.30) which seems quite early enough to me!! I am impressed by all your early mornings!

Well, in all honesty (and in my humble opinion)....7:00 is TOO early for high school students. Block 1 is a "zombie zone" WAY too often. The kids have jobs and just stay up late.....and then have trouble staying awake that early in the morning. I DO like getting out at 2:00 in the afternoon, though (well, let's say I like school being over at 2:00.....between meetings, paperwork, and after school rehearsals it's rare for me to leave before 4:30!).

Can't imagine my 15-year old son being in-class at 7:00! He hasn't had very much sleep by then! He has become completely noctournal over the summer and is going to have a real difficulty readjusting to the hours he is goiing to need to be keeping in more weeks!

My poor kiddo has to be at first period at 7:30...and it's only middle school!!!! Bummer!! Her school is three blocks from my new school and I don't have to be at work til 9:00...kids come at 9:30. I'll be getting there very early because I am not putting her on a school bus at 6am!!! That's barbaric!!! I will drive her at 7:15 and I'll go have breakfast somewhere healthy for an hour. I don't want to be the wierdo who shows up for work 1 1/2 hours early every day!!! That's just too early!!!

I hear ya on Wisconsin--- we aren't far here in Chicago and I lived/worked in Madison all through school. I remember going to student teaching and having to walk 1/2 a mile to catch the bus at 6:00 am and FREEEEEEEEEEEEZING!

I am not so much worried about easing into it anymore. As my landlord is doing some crazy construction project and they have been tearing down/rebuilding the porches starting at 7:45 am everyday this week since last Wednesday. EVEN TODAY ON A SATURDAY-- I hope that they take tomorrow off! I mean 7:45 and 5:00 are very different times but well 7:45 is closer to 5:00 than 11:30 is!

My school doesn't start until 930. Way too late in my opinion. We don't get out until 4. Since I have no kiddies of my own to get ready in the morning I can sleep in til 830. I like that. But I'd rather be at an early school (which is 8-215pm in my district) and get out earlier.

If my husband can take the kids to daycare I don't have to get up until 6:30 or so since my drive to school is about 5 minutes. If I have to get the kids to daycare I will get up at 5:30 since that drive adds about 20 minutes.

My husband's alarm goes off at 5:30. I'm going to re-join the workforce after 6 years at home. I'll get up at 5 so I can beat him into the shower, get some laundry going, get the kids lunches packed, and get them moving before the sitter gets here at 7.

School is 12 minutes away (if I can make all the lights)

I'm a morning person anyway, so this won't be a big deal.
