    i'm using a smiley face theme this year. my BB says:

    Mrs. Luigs' students are S.M.I.L.E. students
    s=students
    m=managing
    i=information and
    l=learning
    e=everyday

    i then put smiley faces everywhere and have some with their names on 'em. :)

    simple and easy!

    My bullentin board is a red background with a cookie sheet made of alumninum foil and the tag line reads: A New Batch of 3rd Graders

    I printed off a chocolate chip cookie picture and after I get my class list, I will write each students name on them. I printed off a bigger one to go in the center with my name and room number.

    I am teaching 1st grade this year, and my classroom theme is a jungle. My bulletin board outside my room is a trail with trees and my student's names are on footprints on the trail. Any ideas what would go with this idea for my door? I would like it to be able to be up most of the year (or as long as I can get it to last!) I already have a bulletin board with monkeys inside the room so I am looking for something jungle themed, but not monkeys... Any ideas???

    Txtchr29 - I made the flip flops by tracing one of my own sandles onto construction paper. The straps are pipe cleaners that I poked through the paper and just folded over on the back side.

    OK, here's what I have to have in my room b-board wise:

    Birthday board
    Star of the Week board
    Parent board
    Science (Shows student work)
    Art (shows student work)
    Math (shows student work)
    Language Arts (shows student work)

    Yes, all of these are required... the art, math, science, and LA boards stay up all year and we just rotate the work on them. The others are pretty much the same all year.

    Here's what I think I'm going to do, what do you think?

    *Math Blast-off (with a rocket ship)
    *Tie-riffic art (using ties for a border or just as a decoration)
    *Science Sleuths (I have a great secret agent graphic I've been trying to use!)
    *Language Arts are no monkey business (monkey and bananas border from Office Max)

    Parent board: Either What's the Scoop? (ice cream) or What's the Buzz? (bees)

    Birthdays... A Sea of Birthdays (each kid gets a cutout, each month is a different sea animal) (but this is a lot of work when kids get added, simpler ideas?)

    Star of the Week... generic board, kids do a questionnaire and I write the answers on index cards and display photos they bring in.

    For jobs, I think I'm going to do lily pads with the jobs on them and frogs for each kid's name, since I already got the frogs :) It can be "Hoppy Helpers" or something

    Thoughts?

    (edited because I changed titles)

    Yes, thank you very much. Your explanation helped me a lot. One more question for you, though...Where did you find those cute little paper bag pockets that you posted on the bulletin?

    I really like this idea also littleschool :)

    Are you using a title with the crossword puzzle?

    I haven't been able to come up with a title yet. I can do a lot of things as a teacher, but coming up with creative titles for BBs is definitely NOT one of my strengths LOL

    They are library pockets! You can find them at most educational supply stores. The ones I have are the stick kids, but they have many different designs. They also have sticky strips on the back, but I wanted to laminate them.

    I did this 2 years ago and my title was " A Tee-riffic Third Grade". I had the kids bring in a small pic of themselves and we put them on the t-shirts:)

    I put up my bb today - "3G is Out of This World!" using rockets. Well, my father (being the retired art teacher he is) had me position the rockets a certain way...when you first see the bb your head starts spinning! Hopefully it'll get better once I add the names. Otherwise, I might have some little kiddos dropping on the floor outside my door:) I'll have to take a picture to show you what I mean!

    Sorry it has taken me awhile to respond!
    My aid gave me the idea "Hanging Out in KA." Someone else mentioned it too. It looks cute. I put the title in the clouds.

    Miss W,
    How do you use the behavior bulletin board? DO they change their card color or something else?

    Across and Down, we're the best class around! (I just thought of that!)
    or-
    Across and Down, we're great kids all around
    or-
    Across and Down, we're fantastic year round (hmmm)

    We Work Together? We Fit Together? (Not quite as good)

    My room is 1A, which I think is really awesome... First number, First Letter. Maybe something with that...

    I have 4 Bulletin boards in the hallway. One I made a 3-d apple with a worm coming out it says "You are the apple of my eye. I am going to use apple die cuts I found at the dollar store with their name on it and staple up a gallon size ziploc back to display their work and not have to keep re-stapling. The other one has a cheerleader and it say's " 2..4...6...8... What do We Appreciate? GREAT WORK!!!" My third one is Curious George and it say's " We A.R. curious about Books" with book cutouts so each time they pass an AR test they can place a sticker on it. The fourth one is " Math Magicians" I drew an Ace on a piece of white posterboard I made a 3-d hat on the card and filled with tissue paper with a little rabbit inside. I am going to use star die cuts to write their names and put an incentive chart for when they pass a skill. If you would like to see pictures let me know. I will post them. i hope this gives you some ideas.

    My door is going to be "Bounding into Intermediates" with kangaroo cutouts. I'm putting their names coming out of thep ockets.

    I just can't decide whether to make all the kangaroos "realistic" with light brown paper, or colorful and use a variety of pastel colors. :)

    Ok I have a bulletin board that I need to do for our cafeteria. This is to be done within the first week of school. I am already doing "tell me about you summer" type board in my room. Any ideas? We are supposed to have student work on it!

    Very cute! I LOVE the way you integrated the picture of you, and how you used perspective to make it seem like the size was perfect!

    This year I decided I wanted to do a year round themed room so the welcome board that will be on my door will stay on year round. I decided to go with a seasons theme because I love the way the leaves change each season. This is the poem I wrote for my door:
    The seasons will change,
    And I will change too.
    This year will be fun,
    In grades one and two.

    I drew a big tree on the door and put students names on things like, fall leaves, butterflies, snowflakes, caterpillars, etc.

    Then inside my room I did each wall themed for that season, including the same design of a tree on each wall but that branches had different colored leaves depending on the season and of course the winter wall has bare branches but snowflakes coming down.

    I will take pictures once I have a chance to get all of this up in my room. This year will be the first year I try a year round themed room. Hope you all like my ideas :)!
