Tuesday, I start a long-term sub position at the local high school. I’ll be in the classroom, but Zooming from there. It’s a text I’ve never used before, I’m cramming on using Canvas, and I’ll have one class of English 10 and five of English 9 — 204 students.

    Should be interesting, anyway...

It’s been nine days. I almost quit two days ago. The other teachers have been very generous with their time and materials, but it’s a new curriculum, two new computer systems plus Zoom, and the isolation is awful. I go in to “teach” from a classroom, but most of the staff is working from home. A third of the kids have Ds or Fs because more than half of the grade is based on a single essay which hasn’t been done yet, and they’ve blown off the little 1-5 point assignments. I’ve started a countdown calendar. 55 days left.
