Back from Staples

Groupie
I just got back from Staples. The first guy said he thought the teacher limit was 10 and went to go verify. When he came back he said that I could get 20. I got 20 pencil boxes for 1 cent each. I also got 20 staplers for 25 cents each.

I think the best deal was the staplers. They are very nice quality. They came in a nice package with an extra box of staples. This is the first year that I am buying the kids their own stapler. The only reason why I am is because they are so cheap and I think it will be less frustrating than passing around 1 stapler for everyone to use. Maybe now they will stop stealing mine!:p

I went to Staples and got my 25 pencil boxes. I passed on the staplers but now am wondering if I should go back and get some.

I also hit Walmart today (for more spirals)
Sam's Club (for register tape & sheet protectors)
Michael's (photo boxes & a Going Places cricut cartridge - I'm doing a travel theme)
Office Depot (DH & I both got the limit for the composition books, colored pencils & glue)

What size are the composition books? What is the limit?

I bought the pencil boxes for them to keep their class money in. I also bought one of the plastic 6 drawer rolling cabinets on sale for $20. Going to use for guided reading-each group will be in its own drawer, so I know where everything is.

Looks like Beth and I got the same order:)

I also passed on the staplers, I don't really know why...?

Don't forget the Staples and Office Depot Teacher Appreciation Breakfasts sometime in August (Check your store for their date). They give coffee, donuts, bagels. But most importantly, they give a bag with free samples...pencils, markers, highlighters, binders, folders, etc. Office Depot even gave away full lesson plan books a few years ago!

I bought the pencil boxes for the class money too! I checked the size of my money last year against a slider box and have been waiting all summer for them to go on sale. I bought the staplers and plan to use them in a goody bag for my students.

I was wondering if the teacher appreciation breakfasts were worth the hassle. Sounds like I will go. Did you find long lines at previous breakfasts?

Anyone have luck with the pencil sharpeners?? My Staples was out :( But, I am going to school tomorrow and with only going very slightly out of my way, can stop at 3 different Staples (different from the one I went to today).

I bought 3 staplers. Didn't feel like pushing the limit. I am going to put them in my treasure box.

I didn't even see the pencil boxes or the staplers because I was so fixated on getting the plastic folders with the little place to put in sheet protectors. I use them as my send home folders. This year they lasted the whole year and only one kid kept losing his. I never replaced it he always found it. Everyone else brought theirs back daily.

I got 25 staplers and 30 pencil boxes. I plan to use the pencil boxes for their money and check registers, too. I think I will give them the staplers at Christmas.

My staples said there was a limit of 25 on everything except the pencil boxes. They told me I could have as many of those as I wanted. The person in front of me got 250, but I figured 30 was more than enough.

Oooo I want to get pencil boxes! Not sure what to use them for yet though.

Hey so I have a Staples question. I have 15 spiral notebooks that I want to get chopped in half. Do you think staples will do it for me for free??? I was going to call but I'm kinda nervous!

Wow, 250 pencil cases. I wonder what she will do with all those.

I got 6 pencil cases, 9 staplers (that's all they have left), and 10 folders. Someone on another teacher board mentioned using the pencil cases to hold math card games and that's what I'm going to use them for. I still have some of the cases left over from last year.

She might have a school store or something. The penny items are perfect for that! I gave a bunch last year to mine.

Oooh - if you ever make those "I have, who has" games the pencil boxes would be perfect for storing them in! As a high school teacher I was thinking I really didn't have much use for the pencil boxes, but now I think I do! Might as well pick up 25 of them and see how creative I can get :woot:!

I went and got the pencil boxes. I am going to paint their names on them and use them as birthday gifts.
I was told by the manager that I could get 25.

I wanted the electric pencil sharpener, but it was battery ran. I passed.

There wasn't any staplers left.

I got the pencil boxes; will go again tomorrow so that I have enough for the whole class. I really didn't have a need for the staplers, so I didn't get them. Then I went to Target and finished buying up their green composition books--I bought a class set of yellow ones earlier, but only got 15 green ones during an entire week. They've finally restocked, so I bought up the green ones and now every student will have a yellow social studies book and a green science one. :)

So far I've gotten the penny paper folders, the penny plastic folders, pencils, erasers, composition books, flash cards and pocket charts, and now penny pencil cases...I can't imagine what all else I would need for the upcoming year, but nevertheless, I probably am not done shopping. ;)

I'm going to head this next Saturday to Staples and get a class set of staplers and slide boxes while it's also the Teacher Appreciation Day at my Staples! The closest one for me is near my school but its an hour drive :( Will the small staplers fit inside the slide boxes?

I hope you can find the staplers by next Sat. They were already out at one location near me and from other posts so far, it seems as though they have a limited supply of the staplers. Maybe because it is such a good deal. I think the reg. price at my store was $2.29! I do think they will fit in the pencil cases.

*sigh* Most of what I want isn't in the penny sales. I got class sets of three ring binders and composition notebooks, and cases of loose leaf paper and pencils.

I'm envious of all the bargains everyone is getting! After living my entire life in the Phoenix metro area, I retired and moved to a town of 5000 in May, 2007. I teach second grade. A Dollar Tree store opened in April...8-10 min. from home. Walmart is a 30 min. drive. There are no office supply stores and only a TINY teacher store barely able to stay open. I keep calling my sister and niece to do shopping for me.

Yes, they do. And guess what?

They are also magnetic!:woot::woot::woot:
So, they can stick to the sides of the desks!

The staplers are magnetic???? Wow!

I may buy a few for the H.S. math students I will be teaching....think buying them for my preschoolers may be a little nuts...

I am buying the pencil sliders for my pk class to put their Alphabet cards in, though. :)

The slide boxes are only on sale until Wed so you don't want to wait until Sat. to get them. The staplers are on sale the whole week.

Here is a twist for you~ I went into Staples and I had to ask for the pencil boxes. The girl said they were out and then another customer spotted a case up high. So, they only had 1 case of 48 in the whole store. I grabbed 2 not wanting to clear them out. I got up to the checkout and handed the lady my teacher rewards card and she said "You know you can get 25 because you are a teacher? You can run back and get more if you'd like." So, I went back and got 23 more. I felt slightly guilty, but she offered!!

I went tonight. The pencil cases are only until Wed. My store was out of staplers, but said they may get another shipment on Wed. and that sale is good all week. So, I'll check back with them.

Goldie,
What part of AZ are you in? I am in Mesa but we have a house in Heber.
