    That other posting got me thinking about baby names. My husband and I have one picked out for a girl, and he thinks we have one picked for a boy (but I'm still unsure about it, haha). Anyway, I thought we could share some baby names.

    I know there are a few pregnancies, and others like me who may be planning to have a baby in a year or two...and just for whoever wants to share! But just so we can get some baby names flowing! Maybe get some ideas from each other.

    Here are mine:

    Girl: Cambria Madison

    Boy: Dexter

    I think I may want a more unique middle name for our girl name. For the boy name we haven't come up with a middle name yet...because I'm still unsure about the first!! :)

    The names of my boys are common ones. I chose them because I didn't want people to have any difficulty with the pronunciation or the spelling (yes, there are other spellings of both but they are not too common) Also, both are not prone to nicknames. I also kept in mind how I think my sons would feel about their names as they grew up. I've had some students who would not use their first names because they were embarrassed by them. (sad)

    I love the name Luke, too, AMK. If I ever had twin boys, I would want to name them Jake and Luke.

    Girl: Elsa Lily Uppman

    Boy: Theodore Samson Uppman, Teddy for short

    I'm a big Harry Potter fan, so I love that there are elements of that series in both names. But they are also both family names. My husband's grandfather was Theodore Uppman (famous opera singer for you Met buffs out there). His great uncle and aunt were Elsa and Samson.

    I love the old fashion names on my side, too-Gretchen, Dorris, Dora, etc., but my dh is set on Elsa.

    I also love Ava, but that seems to be pretty trendy right now. My area is huge into trendy names (there were two Sophias at the birthday party I worked last weekend), so I want to steer clear of those. I like the name Oliver, too, but again-trendy.

    For a girl Rachel Elizabeth (I have had this name picked out since I was four years old)

    Paige
    Phoebe
    Jenna

    For a boy I like
    Breton
    Mack (was my great grandfather's name)

    Pretty much can't think of any boy names I really like a lot.

    Well to the real world my names are TOP SECRET! LOL! But I'd love to have twin boys named:

    Edward Jacob (yep, Twilight series plus I just like how they sound together) I could call him Eddie or EJ

    and Austin Lee (I just like the name Austin and my middle name is Leigh and my grandfather's is Lee)

    and I've always liked Whitney Claire for a girl (unique but not strange and classy!)

    I like Henry or Harry. I have also thought about naming my kid Herman - my Pop's name. It's a horrible name but it kind of grows on you.

    Girls I love Ruby, India, Blythe. Eva was a favorite but its too trendy.

    Dogs - Megatron and Spaghetti. :)

    Since I was about 12 years old I knew that I wanted to name a daughter

    Hannah Grace

    My hubby really likes the name Allison and I also like classic girl names like Sophia, Emily, and Isabella.

    As for boys - I like the name Jamison Cooper (my grandma's maiden name and my maiden name) - but I haven't convinced DH of that one yet!

    We're planning on starting our family in about a year, so we'll see what happens then...

    Silverspoon - I absolutelly LOVE that you picked Megatron as a dog name! My DH would love it too - we might have to name ours Optimus Prime - he squealed like a little girl when we saw that movie in the theater!

    I hate this type of post, because I always gasp at all of the names other people pick. So, gasp away at mine:

    Girl: My favorite girl names change all the time. I can't even think of any right now...

    Boy: Luke, Parker

    For boys, this is where DH and I can't ever decide. But I like:

    Logan, Austin, Hayden, Brady

    Okay, DF and I are not in agreement over any names.... Good thing we've still got a little while to make a compromise.
    My choices:
    Girls: Isabella Grace (But my future sil wants that name, so we've gotta beat her to it!)
    Boys: Andrew Alexander
    DF doesn't really care about the girls name, but he HATES the boys name.... He wants ....wait for it... Merle! Yes, as in, Haggard. Are you kidding me? We were not naming our son Merle, this is 2009!!! I'm trying to get him to compromise with Wyatt or Nicholas, or his own name.... Anything but Merle!

    Boy: Caleb Nicholas, Bradley James. I also like Brayden and Nathaniel.

    I hope to eventually have one girl and 2 boys-

    girl- Avery, Haylee, Riley, or Camden (its hard picking girls names!)

    boys- Parker and Jackson ( I have always wanted to name my son Chandler but I have a feeling the "friends" reference is kinda lame.)

    Wow. Just wow. Interesting names. My eyebrows are raised over come of these ideas. But why not? Go for something unusual.

    If I had had a girl, she would have been named Laura. I guess that's a very normal ordinary average name. But I've always loved it.

    My son is Evan. It was unusual 26 years ago.

    My dh liked Kayla, I liked Hallie, so we compromised and made Kailey. I tried to spell it normal, because my name is spelled unusually (if you've read my posts about monogrammed pencils, you know), but now normal is not normal. When we say her name, we get Kaylee, or Kaleigh, or (unfortunately now) Cailee...

    DD2, I just knew it had to be...Camryn...it just fit...

    If we ever have another, for a girl...I'm out of good names.

    For a boy, I like Chase, but I can't think of a middle name. Dh likes Caden, but it's trendy now, and I don't think it sounds good with our last name.

    My children are Leah, Ted and Emily. I wanted to give Ted a different name, but it was my husband's father's name who died when my husband was only 10. I can't argue with that.
    I wanted to name Emily, Delanney, but my dh didn't like it.

    I think teacher's have to think outside the box a little bit because they have so many students to "taint" the normal names...

    If I think of the names I liked before teaching... Joshua - oh no, can't him that. Andrew - def not naming my kid after THAT kid, Emily - not who I want to associate with my child. lol. The list goes on and on.

    The name I absolutely love for a boy is Elliot. Elie for short. Just love it. Although a middle name could be a challenge. Go simple with Michael after my dad, or John, or Derek after my hubbies dad.

    I also like the name Lilian or Lillianna. Bella (starting to get too popular) A girl I work with is having a boy and I think is going to name him Nolan which is a cute name.

    When my wife was pregnant with our third child, I wrote a program to generate lists of Japanese (ish) names. It was nice -- let you pick male or female and generate any number of names.

    For some reason, she wasn't thrilled with the idea of letting a program name our child. Go figure:dunno:

    #! perl -w
    use strict;

    my ($mf, $no_names, $no_syll) = @ARGV;
    $no_syll = 3 if ! defined $no_syll;
    $mf = 'E' if !defined $mf;
    #print $mf;
    $no_names = 20 if !defined $no_names;
    my @single_vowel = qw/a i u e o/;
    my @start_syllable = qw/k s m n t d f h r p b ch sh z y g w j ky hy gy py by my ny ry zy/;
    my @chars;
    my @male_end = qw/shi ya ta to ki/;
    my @fem_end = qw/ko mi e ka ya/;
    for my $start (@start_syllable){
    for my $single(@single_vowel){
    my $samp = $start.$single;
    ## push syllables unless not legal in Japanese
    push @chars, $samp if $samp !~ /(si)|([yf][ie])|(.he)|[twd][iu]|[jw]e|f[ao]|wo/;
    }
    }
    my @all_syll = (@single_vowel, @chars, "n", "tsu");
    #print join ",", @all_syll, "\n";
    #print $#all_syll;
    for my $j(1..$no_names){
    my $name = '';
    my @this_set = (@single_vowel, @chars, "tsu");
    for my $i(1..$no_syll){
    my $select = &pick_syll(@this_set);
    redo if $select =~ /.y/ and rand(1) < .5; ##limit gya, gyu, kya, etc.
    $select = &pick_syll(@single_vowel) if $select =~ /[pwz]/ and rand(1) < .5; ## encourage single vowels
    if ($i == $no_syll and rand(1) < .8){

    if ($mf eq 'M'){
    $select = &pick_syll(@male_end);}
    elsif ($mf eq 'F'){
    $select = &pick_syll(@fem_end);}
    else {
    $select = &pick_syll(@male_end, @fem_end);
    }
    }
    $select =~ s/^(.)(.+)/$1$1$2/ if rand(1) < .1 and $select =~ /^[tskpgnm]/ and $i!=1; ## enable 10% double-consonants in mid-word
    push @this_set, "n"; ## no initial single n's
    $name .= $select;}
    print $name, ", ";}

    sub pick_syll{
    my @set = @_;
    my $rand = (int(rand $#set)) + 1;
    return $set[$rand];
    }

    Kendall Clarke for a boy's name. We named our son Collin Clarke, but Kendal was our second choice.

    We could only come up with one girl's name throughout both pregnancies - Elizabeth Ailene - and our daughter got it.

    I only have girls, and their names are:
    Elisabeth Rose (Lizzy) (Rose was my grandma who died while I was pregnant with her).
    Grace Frances (Frances was my great grandma, and Grace was born on her birthday)
    Natalie Ann (Ann was my middle name until I married and took my maiden name as my middle name).

    If we'd had a boy, child #1 would have been Stuart Sebastian, child #2 would have been Scott Nicholas and child #3 was going to be Lucas Edward (Luke.). Glad I didn't do the Luke thing, because the year that child went into PreK, there were 4 Luke's in her class! I still like both Stuart and Scott, though.
