How does your school do awards? All 6 grade levels have their own big award ceremony. It is stretched over 2 days. They all last at least an hour. Personally, I think it is a little overkill. I can see 5th. I can see K. I'm not sure it is necessary in all the other grades. I'd rather incorporate it into my class party.
K-2 have a collective ceremony (only 2 classes per grade level) that lasts a bit over 2 hours. That same day in the afternoon, grades 3-4 have a joint ceremony that lasts about an hour. Grade 5 promotion is a huge event that lasts about 2 hours and is always on the last day of school, followed by a brunch.
Only fifth grade has a ceremony. What I don't like, is that the rest of the school isn't invited. But our fifth grade team is very cliquish.
We only have 5th and 6th grade and they each have their own ceremony. There are about 20 classes per grade level and each ceremony is 1.5 hours.
Nope. But since I'm homeroom teacher for 6th grade, during graduation I plan on giving out an award to each kid. Like "biggest helper" and "best laugh" or whatever.
We have awards ceremonies in our classrooms. Fifth grade has a promotion ceremony. Each grade level signs up for a day and time and then the teachers give out the awards to their students. We can choose to do it as a grade level but my grade hasn't taken that route before.
We have a program for the 4th-graders, and I think it lasts about an hour. It's for their families-the rest of the school does not attend. That's it, though...Nothing school-wide, and no kindergarten graduation.
Each grade in my school has an awards ceremony! However, I am curious to know how you guys feel about that "you have to give an award" to every student rule we have? I had 2 or 3 students out of my 50 (I have two third grade clases that switch halfway through the day) that simply did not deserve an award this year. I had to stretch it to even think of an award to give them.
Each grade level has an awards assembly. I actually love it. The kids feel so special. All the first graders will be performing a couple songs at ours, too. We don't have to give everyone an award, though! We have improvement, outstanding achievement (academic), citizenship, and perfect attendance. We have two assemblies a year - at the halfway point and at the end. I'm going to be doing my own awards in class as well - sillier, more personal stuff that only my class will understand and everyone will get one - on the last day of school.
