It depends on grade level. There are obviously different sizes in elementary and high school. I think I took measurements of the ones in my middle school classroom. I'll check my list tomorrow.

    What's the average class size?

I was told my new class will be 600sq feet...for 29 students...which seems small, I think. They won't let me see it until August 6, but I'm trying to do some planning.

    The height is usually adjustable.

I'll check tomorrow when I go in for a meeting. My desks are one piece, so they are not height adjustable. We have a conglomeration of desks in the building. Some are supposedly adjustable, but are so decrepit that it is a miracle they are standing let alone being adjustable. Some teachers scrounged the throw away heap and rescued old pitted science tables, which once again, are not adjustable. The all in one desks like mine are an issue for some of our plus sized students and even the kids (usually boys) who are close to 6 feet tall or have really long legs.

I measured my student desks (& everything else in the classroom) yesterday - my student desks (the kind with a separate chair) are 22" wide x 18" deep.

That's about the same as mine. I did not write the height down though but I measured where I thought they'd come to at my hip and I'd estimate about 33 inches high.

That sounds right, too - my hips were covered with bruises last year! LOL

Nope - they are more like a box on 4 legs, with the side that faces the student being open - kinda like a garage with no door, lol.

I found the actual desk online. I found the measurements. I found an idea on pinterest where the teacher created tables to add in the middle of the groups. On these tables they have all their necessary materials such as notebooks, wipes, kleenex, etc. I thought it was a great idea. My husband said he is willing to help me out in creating them, but I was trying to find a small bench already made. I wanted the size, because I also thought about my TV dinner folding tables. I think their too high, so that won't work.

this one has the bench idea http://pinterest.com/pin/77898268524179988/

this one i love, but I don't think I have the space for the book shelves. http://pinterest.com/pin/25684660345195865/

I found this one just now, but I don't know where to get inexpensive benches for four groups. http://pinterest.com/pin/25684660345195865/

It totally depends on the age group of student you teach and grades. Also whether you want it for one or two students.
