Attn: Ohio Job Seekers!

Questions and engagement ideas written down, resume printed, clothes ready to go. I'm so excited I don't know how I'm going to manage to sleep tonight. I feel a touch nervous, but less than I did for the interview I had last month. Here's hoping they like me and my eager, go-getter attitude.

Cat, could you PM me your name so if I so stop by the English Department to say hi I know who you are?

I feel my interview went very well (John gave me a lot of positive feedback). We took almost 45 minutes to wrap up, mostly because I love to talk. Turns out we have the same hometown. Small world. There were a lot of people there, so I don't know if the odds are in my favor or not.

It was nice seeing you in person, catnfiddle!

They're not doing second interviews after all, which is a relief. I won't hear anything until after the mini-fair in June, though. At least I'm still in the running.

The waaaaaiting is the hardest part.

As I am currently up to my eyeballs in year-end grading, I would personally adore having as many new teachers working with me as possible. Good luck!

Has anyone heard anything yet? I know they said mid-June, but I am having a hard time with the waiting. This feels like a long time! Are they even doing a fair tomorrow? I have not seen any information on that. Oh well, I guess we will know soon:)

I've heard the same as you. I think there were so many of us there in May that a second fair was unnecessary. The waiting is getting to me as well. I'm wondering what the range is for "mid-June". As early as next Monday? Exactly on the 15th? as late as the 20th?

The person I interviewed with said they were looking to fill about 100 positions and 5 teachers in my content area. I felt that my interview went really well at the time, but the farther away we get from that time, the less confident I feel.

To the best of my knowledge, the second fair is for those who showed up in May and couldn't get an interview appointment. I've tried getting hints on hiring and nobody is giving me a peep back.

That's what I was thinking, considering it wasn't advertised publicly like the last one. I saw a lot of walk-ins (luckily none in my content area), so it makes sense.

I sent an e-mail to HR asking about the timeline, since this "mid-June" thing was so vague it was driving me insane. This is the response I received:

Thank you for your continued interest in ECOT. We are still finalizing interviews and hope to make decisions soon, currently you are candidate they are still considering. Please continue to check your email for more information.

I'm holding on to that glimmer of hope. More information makes the anticipation even greater.

WHEW for that kind of email. HR is swamped, I'm sure. We had end-of-year teacher reviews and they have to assess every one of them, so the fact that you got any email back is a huge plus.

I considered emailing also, but I am too chicken! I hope that no rejection means I am still being considered! Good luck to everyone waiting!

They're reference checking! I hope they're able to reach my CT. I gave ECOT the schools phone number, since they're most likely to be able to get a hold of her (they just wrapped up the school year last week).

I can't take it anymore! I am going crazy with the waiting!!! I also got called for an interview at Ohio Virtual Academy- anyone know anything about that school?

They've contacted me in the past but only had part-time for my subject, so I declined an interview. They're a great school! The technology is top-notch due to their affiliation with K12. Test scores, if memory serves, are high.

I want to know for certain either way. It's been over a month since my initial interview. I need to find a new apartment and can't do so until I know if I have a full time job or not. I already lost out on one place because I've been waiting. I've contacted HR a few times in these past few days. I don't want to be a nuisance, but at the same time I feel I have to stay on top of them if I'm ever going to get any information.

Did they give anymore information? I was really thinking we would hear today- before the weekend. I emailed about a week and a half ago and got a very encouraging email, but still nothing.

Here's what I got on the 18th when I inquired:

Thank you for your continued interest in ECOT. Currently we are still reviewing all candidates and contacting references before making final offers. You are still being considered for our open positions and we hope to finalize these hires soon.

I expected "soon" to be a week ago. I'm frustrated as anything. If it gets me a job it will be worth it, but if not this being led on is going to hit hard. I just want to be a teacher!

Thanks, cat! I might give them a call or something next week as well. Hopefully my badgering will be looked upon favorably.

Literally have been waiting to see if you got the job! Saw that you posted and I immediately opened it to see if you got it. Still praying up here!

Thanks, knitter! Give my regards to my beloved northeast Ohio. I'm an Akron native and rarely have the opportunity to drive home these days.

Haha I've been doing the same thing! Ravin, I was in your place last year. The Ohio job market is tough, I'm rooting for you!

"We will be making decisions mid-June". So much for that.

I understand that these things take time and there were 600 applicants, but they should have either overestimated the time they needed or revise their timeline. Maybe they meant mid-July? Goodness knows a teaching job would be a fantastic birthday present. One HR person told me they've started doing calls/offers, but another said that they're still doing reviews of resumes and interview notes.

I'm half tempted to e-mail the person who interviewed me. He doesn't have any hiring authority, but he must know the people who do.

Rainraven, I'm so sorry you're in this kind of pickle. I didn't even interview until early July and didn't officially know I got the job until HR called to make sure I had gotten my orientation packet ("Um, no?"). If you interviewed with the person I think you did, I'll see if I can dig up any dirt from him personally.

My life, fer serious.
Good news and (potentially) bad news.

I received a message Thursday. Seeing an e-mail from ECOT made me all tingly and faint (I'm going to have to sit down to check my e-mail from now on I think). Decisions/offers are apparently being made this week. Good!

Bad! We were hit with severe storms Friday evening and many portions of the county are without power and it won't be fully restored in the area for 5-7 days. Hopefully ECOT HQ was too far south to be impacted. How do you manage widespread power outages as an online school?

SO GLAD the wait is almost over for you. I can't get a word out of anyone. There was a realignment of administration last week that may have been the cause of the delay. Most people stayed in their old positions but there were a few promotions and retirements.

As far as I can tell, school is fully functional, at least as far as connectivity. When there's a wide-spread outage during the school year, we wind up mailing out a lot of packet work that approximates what they would get online. I'm not sure how this is going to affect summer school. We may have to stay open an extra week.

Here it is- another day to wonder if we will hear anything! I did not get that email and so now I am worried. Good luck:):)

Aw, I'm sorry Ravin. I know it was so rough waiting this long only to be let down in the end. Hopefully you were pursuing other opportunities while you were waiting. Something will pop up soon, don't give up :)

I am so sorry to hear that!!! I got an email yesterday that said They were adding several positions in my area and I was being considered for one of those new positions. They said they hoped to notify me in the next week- more waiting!! Good luck to you in your job hunt!
