This is from the powers that be at my online school. I am posting it a little early for you to get a jump start: As you may have heard, ECOT will be holding an employment event on May 16th, here at our Columbus office. ECOT anticipates hiring close to 100 teachers for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. There will be a pre-registration process online for qualified teacher candidates to complete. This information is not posted yet, but will be available on our new website beginning Monday. We look forward to having another successful employment event on May 16, 2012!
I will probably be helping at the info table for the English department for at least part of the day. Waiting for confirmation of when.
So why respond to this thread? These posters are trying to help those teachers that DO want to live in OH or Vegas or wherever find job listings that they might not have otherwise seen.
Thanks for posting cat! I watched some of your school's videos, and it looks so interesting, especially the elementary side.
If you want to see a couple of my friends talk about being an online teacher, check out this video. As for my perspective, I love what I do and how I do it. Things are not roses and bon bons every day, but the good heavily outweighs the bad.
Will they consider hiring out of state people if they will relocate? My best friend is currently certified in Virginia and Michigan and would like to move closer to home (Michigan).
Thanks for sharing! It's nice to see that there are jobs out there for the people who are looking for an opportunity.
As long as we're sharing... www.nebraskaeducationjobs.com You can click on View Latest Job Postings, or click on Search for a Job and choose your options.
There was a job on NE Educ. Jobs last week that was for an education outreach specialist for a public power company that paid $76,000 a year.
I think first preferences goes to teachers who already have Ohio licensing since HQT status is a huge factor, but I'm not 100% positive. Best bet is to check the site when it's live on Monday.
The site to preregister is live and ready to go. When I know more about the times I'll be at the job fair, I'll post that information so interested parties can say hello.
My OH license is pending (silly transcript issues), so no license in hand, but will be by the end of the month. Are they looking for 7-12 Integrated Social Studies by chance? I love living in Columbus. Best city in the state, hands down.
I think they're looking for everything, not just what's listed on the site. The school currently has 14,000+ students and the numbers climb daily. If you're going to be certified by the end of the month, they'll probably be happy to chat with you. And yes, I do love living in Columbus, although I would prefer a little more mass transit.
For those who have signed up, I will be at the English Language Arts table answering curriculum / online pedagogy questions from 10am-1pm that day. My last name is similar enough to my screen name that you should be able to make a connection.
Do we just have to sign-up and then show up that day? I've been wondering if there was an e-mail response or invite of some sort. I reeeeally want to work for ECOT.
The job fair and other information can be found here. You can submit your resume any time, but the job fair gets you face time for an interview if you register.
So no response = no interview? It's only been a day since I registered. Do you know when they'll be arranging interview times?
Sorry, I don't know. I'm not involved in the hiring process other than letting people know that there is a job fair and covering a booth to talk about teaching English online.
I just got a call! I have an interview at 1:00 p.m. and a technology assessment at 2:15. I might explode from excitement.
Good luck! It is always nice to hear there are jobs out there and that people are getting called for interviews!
Stop at the English Language Arts table to say hello and gather your nerves. I'll be there until 1 and, knowing me, will probably linger a little.
I know Word and Powerpoint well, but I haven't had to use Excel in a while. Is it used for calculations?
It's used for a LOT of purposes. You might want to find an online tutorial, although you'll probably be fine.
I am also concerned about Excel- used it in college, but not much since! I would def be willing to brush up on my skills to do the job! Guess I will be checking out a tutorial! Thanks!
When I scheduled my interview, they said Word and Powerpoint, but made no mention of Excel - good thing I checked here. I used the program extensively for Prob/Stats in high school, but have done little with it since. I played around with it for a bit yesterday (I learned to make a grade book) and it's coming back to me. I feel like I'm familiar with the basics of Excel to the point where I would just need a cheat sheet of formulas and I could do anything.
Brilliant! You've been an invaluable resource, catnfiddle. Now I just have to wow them at my interview. Any tips? I'm planning on going to one of the informational sessions to learn more about ECOT before my interview time. Online teaching is so strange and fascinating to me, having grown up in a time where online schooling was a relatively new concept. I have so many questions.
My main tip is to come with your own list of questions. Be actively engaged with your interview. Be enthusiastic and driven.
I pre-registered for the employment event, but did not hear back about an interview. I still plan on attending the event. Any advice on how to get my foot in the door? I have experience as an online teacher, certified in English 7-12 and have my Master's degree in English. I would love an opportunity to teach at ECOT!
If you don't have a scheduled interview, hang in there and submit all your stuff. I think there will be a mini-fair in June. Good luck!
