There are so many Texas teachers on this board, and a few of us have been thinking that it would be fun for us to schedule a meet and greet sometime this summer.

We know Texas is big, so we probably won't be able to all come in, but we're thinking that meeting in the Houston area is probably the most logical choice. A large number of us seem to be in this area, and it would also allow the San Antonio, Austin and even Eastern Louisiana people a chance to come in if they would like to make the drive.

Would any of you be interested in meeting one Saturday in late July or early August?

Let's work out some details here if you are!

I don't post much but would love to meet up. I'm in the Houston-ish area so if you needed any help with planning, I can help out.

Yeah, we were thinking that if we do it in Houston, it is definitely easier for the Louisiana people to come in and we know there are LOTS of you guys on these boards, too!

So let's plan this thing! Seems like late July/early August in the Woodlands/Spring area is the winner by a hair.

I'm just going to throw a date and a place out there, and we can fine tune from here. Okay?

How does everyone feel about Saturday, July 28th for lunch (noon) at Cafe Express in the Woodlands Market Street? It's got a really large seating area, everyone can order on their own so we wouldn't have to get a big table and deal with a waiter, etc., and there are lots of food options for just about all types of eaters.

Here's a link with their menu and map. Tell me what you think about the day, time and location. Let's see if we can come to a consensus. :)

I've noticed there are lots of Texas teachers on here too. The get-together sounds like fun! If I weren't way over in West Texas, I'd come too. Y'all have fun!

There really are a lot of us! But sadly when we have to cover an area 773 miles wide and 790 miles long, we are going to miss a few of us. :( Wish you could come, Mel! Maybe you can host a "west Texas edition" to this round up! LOL

There will be 3 of us! I'm there! Is there any good hotels in The Woodlands area? I'll probably come down Friday, spend the night, and then go home after hanging out.

Aw...if I could find a way to swing a 3-hour drive each way I'd want to do it! Moved out here a year and a half ago, haven't seen Houston yet and want to. But then I'm very newly back here at the boards after a pretty long absence so I doubt anyone "knows" me anyway lol. But how fun! And tempting. But 6 hrs on the road...

Well, 3 littlemonkeys, Houston and hanging out with AtoZ peeps is *well* worth a 6 hour trip! ;)

I mean, it's TEXAS! You're going to drive 2 hours to go *anywhere*! LOL!

Lol, so true! When I lived in CA, I didn't want to venture more than 20 min from home, because why? Everything I could possibly want to do was within that radius. Now that I'm in TX, a 1.5 hour drive to Austin is run of the mill, and even 3 hrs to Corpus isn't so bad...craziness lol.

Oh, yeah! I mean, I'd rather NOT make a day trip to San Antonio, but it wouldn't be unusual to do so. There are some nice hotels around the Woodlands area of Houston which is where we are meeting. Maybe you could convince your S/O to make it a weekend! :)

Haha--I'm in San Antonio, so similar thoughts re: Houston :)

S/O is deployed, so that wouldn't be an issue. I do have kids who would LOVE a night in a hotel, but I'd have to see if I could swing that out of my next paycheck. I will look into it though! I can chalk it up to "networking" maybe... ;)

And I swear most of that time is spent getting through Houston! I live just south of the city and it still takes me about an hour to get to The Woodlands.

Hmmm... I don't think we have an agenda other than to meet, hang out and talk teaching! Just get to know each other, maybe make some connections here in the area if we need some more teacher advice! :) I'll get there a little early and find us a spot. I'll get a balloon or something and tie it to the chair. You can't miss a red head with a balloon! LOL!

I am not, we would all end up playing chase the kiddos. Two year olds are not that interested in sitting and eating. It will be their nap time, not sure if DH is keeping them or my MIL, depends on if DH works overtime.

For those of you that may bring your kiddos, there are plenty of nice parks in the Woodlands. Also, Cafe Express is located in market street that has a grassy area(for lack of a better description) for events but my kids just love to run and play there too. There is also a new restaurant that has a play area for the kids called Zunum, haven't been there yet but kids are begging to go. Across from Market street is also the Cynthia Woods pavilion and between that and the library is a labrynith, kids could play and adults to could chat! Have fun, I wish I could meet up with you all. Would love to put a face with the name of the members that have always provided me with such good and helpful advice!
