So, my DW calls and asks me if I remember her doctor's name; she gives me the town and says, "It's an Indian woman, I think her name starts with "N"".... Then she says, "Oh, I can give you the phone number" She gives me a number and I look it up and it's way far away from the town mentioned. I asked why she doesn't have the name there also in her phone and she says, "Because, I put it in as "doctor". Oh, maybe try this one instead." She then gives me the phone number of the pediatrician. So apparently she has a bunch of contacts set up in her phone as "Doctor" without anything else useful to tell which is which. And now she wants me to remember the almost-certainly-multisyllabic name of an Indian woman who I might have looked up online months ago.
You married her, and I doubt the behavior is new. Try to see it as if she had tons of things on her plate at once, since I am sensing small children, and why not go into her phone and organize it for her, without sarcastic remarks, but with love, as something that will help her through her day? My husband is useless with email and contacts on his phone, so I monitor and clear out the junk, adding the important information in his contacts, and helping with whatever other glitches the tech heads his way. The trade off? I can't change the oil, fix the brakes, or fix a leaky pipe. Marriage is usually an experiment in compromise. Speaking from experience...
I keep important #s in my cell, but I label ea # thoroughly (i.e, Dr. Chan...who is my only dr to keep a # for, Round Table Pizza, etc.) When I deal w/ someone who I know I'll be dealing w/ on a regular basis, I grab a few of their business cards when I'm in their office. I also keep an "online phone book" of contacts in the section of my email at home. If I know I'll need to contact someone when I'm out that day, I'll either have it in my phone OR jot the # down quickly & take it w/ me that day to keep trying until I reach them. She should probably go through her whole contacts list & edit them much more thoroughly, changing them to actual people's names, etc.
Oh, it's not all that surprising to me; don't worry, it's not like I love her any less for it. I don't think I'll have all the info needed to actually update her contacts for her, but I have gotten to be a pretty good detective (though I usually have better info than "a doctor with an Indian name").
I have my doctor's memorized. If she's been to that doctor before - check your insurance company's website - you can check the claim for the name.
If this is common, let me suggest a technique that works well for a lot of information that you just hate having to share over and over again when there are only minor changes. I keep a running medical history for myself and my husband on my computer. When there are changes in doctors, I simply print it off and take it with me so I don't have to try to remember it all, drugs I take, when there were surgeries, when was my last tetnus shot - you get the picture. I have another list that has all of my husbands screen names and current password for each. He is a professional with lots of websites to visit, but he is inherently cautious about having passwords saved on his computer. I also have a file with my MIL's contacts and phone numbers, since she is starting to get forgetful, and if there is a phone change, or other need, she can't seem to find the info when she needs it. I just jot down the appropriate info for any of these files and add when I have a minute at the computer. Once saved, I can share with an email as needed, or print it out. Saves time, saves aggravation, and saves my sanity. You could start the file once you find the name and phone number of the Indian doctor, and build from there. At least you would have a go to place to start the next time around. The only drawback? I may have not got to post to a thread or two on this forum - like that will kill me!
I think getting a card every time you go to a new doctor is a good idea. You can just keep it for reference. One of my doctor's has a card that lists all the doctor's in his practice and also their hours. It's just handy to have.
3Sons- I've done the same thing as your wife! I am not looking for any tips, but it is nice to know I have good company! :lol: That said - now I take a picture of all new doctors' business cards. Works for me
