I am going to be a brand new 8th grade science teacher this fall. I requested a copy of the course schedule that was used last year. Every Friday, the teacher has listed "ARE/Quiz." Any idea what it could mean? I know it's probably just a weekly quiz, but I'm just curious on the acronym.

I can't think of anything, except Accelerated Reader E___? But that doesn't make sense in science. And I tried to google it, but all I get is "are science quizzes hard?"

As the above poster stated, Accelerated Reader was the first thing that came to my mind.

If they are moving to common core it could be

    Assertion
    Reason
    Evidence

which is a model for writing arguments. That's a key part of the language arts common core that ties into social studies and science now.
