Hi everyone, It's my first year teaching summer school. I was initially dreading it, but it's not been too bad and I get extra dough. Just curious how much teachers in other locations get paid. If you don't mind sharing, how much extra do you get? Thanks Ours depends on enrollment. Also, I'm in South Korea, so we are paid in Korean won. When I converted the amount I'll make around 1,000 USD for the three weeks of summer school.
I am currently teaching summer school for algebra 1. I get paid around $6500 for 19-5 hour days. Works out to around $70/hr so you can't really beat that! I am in NJ.
Unfortunately, my district cut summer school due to budget issues several years ago. I was bummed because I've always worked summer school and counted on that extra money. We made $40 per hour and got paid for planning time as well. It basically doubled my paycheck that month- not bad for only working half days and without the other stresses of the regular school year (meetings, paperwork, etc.)
Summer school here pays right at 40 an hour...but it's mostly kids doing credit enhancement and it's a ton of fun.
I did it this year, and have many times in the past. I get $36 an hour - seems a middle of the road rate here.
I used to teach summer school when I was a 'newish' teacher and building my resume. It ran for about 3-4 hours per day for about 3 1/2 weeks in July. I don't do summer school anymore. My days off for relaxation and fun are worth more to me than I'd make in summer school. And I save tutoring money from the school year (much more lucrative than summer school) for summer adventures!
