Are you allowed to wear jeans?

We could go shoe shopping! I nearly hyperventilated one year at the post-holiday DSW sale...I had two hip high piles of shoe boxes to try... I have a bit of an Imelda Marcos complex.

 

Nope. We most definitely are not. In Mexico, people (at least in the city) always dress up and take appearance very seriously. Due to that, we are made to dress very professional. Once a month we may wear jeans, but we have to pay! lol. At my old school here, the dress actually was much more relaxed and you could wear jeans, but this school is dealing with a different population of parents for the most part.

 

We wear jeans on fridays with school shirts. We also have some fundraisers where we can pay $5 to wear jeans all week.

 

It isn't banned, the school just expects us to dress appropriately for whatever our job entails. Most Fridays are dress down days for teachers and students (they were uniforms the rest of the week) and that means jeans and a t-shirt for me.

 

Me too! I would love to teach in those shoes all day, but I know I wouldn't make it from the house to the garage. Well done, czacza!

 

We are allowed to wear them only on Friday.
I tried to talk the Director into wearing them every day, since it's Summer, but she wouldn't bite.

Here teachers are allowed to where what they want as long as they are decent. Each school is soo different. Some teachers dress like they are headed for the beach (shorts, flipflops, and a tshirt). Others dress casual nice, some dress up a bit more. However, some schools are cracking down because of teachers dressing in the "fashionable" clothing that reveals too much cleavage and are wearing skirts that are too short. (This last part is a bit abstract to people. The best way I can describe it is, my dad used to work at a convenience store when I was in middle school. The "red light" workers would come in to by smokes and junk food. I remember when we'd bring him lunch a few of the "ladies" would come in....this is how I've seen teachers dressing...this is "fashion" now.

Not to get off the subject, but it is sad how some female teachers think that it is a "cleavage show" UP in here!:lol: Who are they trying to impress? The daddies of the children, the cop who might stop them on the way to work, the store clerk at 7-11, the guys who are stopping for gas at the gas station they might stop at, the male personnel at school, anyone I missed?

perhaps going off topic further but please be aware - for some of us cleavage is not by choice. Those of us who are larger in the chest look MUCH different in the same top that a smaller chested woman can wear more gracefully. just sayin'.

 

I have a small frame and a large chest. You are absolutely right... I can't get away with the same shirts that girlfriends wearing an A or B cup can. But I also make sure that the shirts I wear at school have a high enough neckline that cleavage isn't an issue. If I'm not sure about a shirt, I'll stick a layering tank top underneath.

As for jeans, my last elementary school was very casual. Jeans were supposed to be a Friday thing, but many teachers wore them and flip flops daily. I'm starting a new preschool position this fall at a small private school. The teachers are also pretty casual.

 

Unless I were to wear a turtleneck every single day, there will be at least a minor hint of cleavage when I move a certain way. (When standing up straight, with my arms at my sides, I am always OK.) I wear camis under everything to help avoid this.
I am very conscious about it, and will often have to pass certain tops over.

 

Yep! Short of binding myself and wearing nothing but turtle necks, there is going to be some cleavage.

Whats wrong with looking good for the male colleagues?

 

Really? If I'm making an effort to look good, which I usually do, any male colleagues are the furthest thing from my mind. That's completely inappropriate and ridiculous.

 

Why is that inappropriate. Whenever I make an effort to look good, it's in part because I want women to notice. I don't care if men see how I look. But I do know that women like to look good for other women. I don't understand it, but I know it happens.
I don't see how it is inappropriate or ridiculous.

 

I like to look good because it's professional and it feels good to be presentable. When I'm teaching kids, attracting the opposite sex is completely irrelevant. There are plenty of other places for people who are trying to attract each other. Plus, I'm not single and neither are many others who make an effort to look decent. I don't particularly want any other male attention.

 

This made me laugh. I did say "in part", the other reason to look good is yes to be professional and to feel good. But looking good for others, is definitely appropriate as well. And just because you aren't single, doesn't mean you can't look good for the opposite sex. And you are not teaching all day long, sometimes you are walking through the hallway and see other teachers, or in the office, lounge, etc. Nothing wrong with that.

 

I am talking about the ones who wear plunging necklines (the shirt is so little fabric it barely counts as a shirt). I do not think it is appropriate for a teacher regardless of "size" wear such revealing clothing. I do concede many of the nicer shirts targeted for ladies to buy have ever increasing "vnecks". I use those "secret camis" then I can wear mice fashions and not look like I am going clubbing ( yes I have seen teachers dress like that...prompting the dress code crack downs I have seen)

 

That's true for me as well. It drives me crazy because I do wear a cami under everything (I literally have an entire drawer full of them), but even that doesn't work because they ride down throughout the day and I'm constantly pulling at them. It's hard to find good ones to begin with b/c I can't do the built-in-bra ones (the bra is never big enough, making the shirt sit really low) or the straps are not short enough, again making the shirt sit too low. I am really self-conscious about it and have started buying school clothes that are literally up to my neck. I just got this in two different colors:

I wore one to orientation this week and it was SO nice to not have to worry about messing with a tanktop- but unfortunately these will only last until it gets cold! I need to start finding some higher-neck winter clothes.

 

Waterfall those shirts are nice! I'm short in height and large up-top, so I do understand most fashionable clothing aren't designed for my body type. I am weirdly proportioned. Most pants that fit ride low in the back. I really want to try those things for when the shirt rides up and pants ride down..don't remember what they are called.
The secret camis actually work for me, they rarely ride up. I have read reviews of people similar frame to me who have had trouble with this product. I've never tried an actual cami, but for the sake of color variety I've considered getting some.

Sometimes walmart and target actually have nice clothes for larger topped ladies.
