Are you allowed in your building during the shutdown? We have been closed for instruction in person since April 16. We are, however, permitted in the building if needed. The custodial staff cleaned the first week, then started painting and doing some of the things they normally can’t do until summer. The building looks great. Admin is also there. A couple of assistants are usually there, too, to answer phones and handle packet distribution. I have been a couple of times to grab things I needed at home. Friday there were interviews, so I attended those. While I was there, I shut down my room for the year and told the custodians I was finished in case they wanted to start on my room. DH is allowed in his building as well. He’s been once. They scheduled them for days to shut down their rooms.
The last day we had class was March 13. When we left that day, we knew we would be home for 3 weeks (1 week spring break and then a 2 week closure). Since then, we have been allowed back into the building for one 15-minute block to grab essentials from our rooms. I have no idea what the plan is going forward; at this point, we know we'll be out until at least mid-May.
We have been allowed to go in, as long as we email first, so they know we are coming, and after, so they know where to clean. Starting last week and going through this week, we could sign up for a three hour time slot to retrieve things and/or pack our rooms. Only one person per floor is allowed at any given time. After this week, and only maintenance, custodians, and admin are allowed in the buildings. I made one trip a few weeks ago to retrieve some items. I’ll be going in this week to pack my room.
Not generally. They are opening the building up for 3 hours for us to run in and grab anything we need for teaching or personal items we left behind. We each have a designated day this week based on where our classrooms are in an effort to keep us from crossing paths.
Yes, we just have to sign up on an online spreadsheet ahead of time to limit the number of people in a certain area, and the custodians have to re-clean any room we were in.
No access to the buildings currently. They are working on a plan for getting us in to pack up our rooms for the summer, but the way it was phrased made it sound that it was still at least a month away.
We have already closed our classrooms for summer. They decided this would be a great year to paint our building, so we had to be completely out a week ago.
We were allowed to go in to prepare our student packets and quickly count our supplies so that we could work on our orders for next year from home. We had to have our temperature taken before we were allowed in.
Yes, I have untethered access, even on the weekends. It’s a beautiful thing. Of course, I don’t even go anywhere near the build without PPE on.
Yes, we can go in anytime. No one is there though. I haven’t gone in but will at least over before summer. When I left the classroom last, as far as I knew it was just a normal Friday. The room was reasonably clean and organized, but not shut down for the summer.
We aren't. About two weeks after we closed, they opened the building up for a 2 hour window so that teachers could get supplies from their rooms for online learning. That was really frustrating because at the time, they didn't tell us what online learning was going to look like. Apparently there was also a sign out front stating we were to only stay 5 minutes. I honestly didn't see it and stayed 30 minutes without anyone saying anything- my teammate mentioned the sign later. Thankfully I've had everything I've needed. I do have a gym bag full of stuff stored in my closet now that I grabbed but didn't end up needing.
We are allowed in. Classrooms aren't closed for the summer and we should find out this week what the plan is for us to come in and do that.
We are allowed in at any time. We also had to sign up a couple of weeks ago for slots of time to come in and summarize our rooms.
I got a schedule today for our times to come in and clean out student lockers. We also have meetings scheduled for teams and departments. 6 to 9 people in each of those meetings.
In person meetings? We are doing all meetings, interviews, and PD via Zoom. I don’t think I’d be comfortable with going to a meeting in the building.
Yes. They will be in-person meetings. I’ll be wearing a mask and maintaining distance. We may have the option to attend via Google Meet. I’m not sure.
Yes we are allowed in our building any time we want to be there. I usually go two to three times a week to work on stuff. Usually when I go, I am the only one on campus.
I went back in 3 weeks ago to grab some materials to scan at home. Then I got an e-mail saying I was seen in the building without protective gear, - left my muzzle in the car - um no people around - and in future told I must ask permission - if granted must wear a mask and bring santizer or would Warning of written reprimand for further noncompliance blah blah.
We were allowed in with permission. However, that directive changed about 4 days ago. Now we may only request items that we need and have them gathered by the P/AP. All keypads to the buildings have been disabled, and we no longer have keys to the keyed doors. We have no idea why restrictions tightened this week, but we are still under a safer at home directive.
One or two of us are allowed in at a time to do printing and other clerical work, but only a few staff members have the keys and codes to get in. We have an alternate location that allows students to drive up to pick up and drop off paper packets (most of our students have no wifi access). Only ten people are allowed in that building at a time, we stayed masked the entire time we're running work out to students, we quarantine the papers for a week before taking them home to grade, and our custodian deep-cleans the area after we leave.
We are not allowed in the building until the stay in place has been lifted. We couldn’t get things to do our distance learning. We had to make it with what we had.
My P is going to make a schedule for us to go in and close down our rooms. Per social distancing rules only 10 people can be in the building at once and she has to make sure those people are spread out. We aren't doing the big list we usually do so that people can get it done in under 2 hours- it's just throwing away trash, clearing off counters, taking any remaining personal items home, and turning in keys. I'm debating if I want to take all of my online learning materials back to my classroom or keep them in case we're doing this again in the fall .
Yes I’ve been in and out. It’s weird walking through the halls on a day we’d normally have school and there’s no students. It has a very hallow feeling to it.
Is your building small? What is the social distancing rule in your state? They are allowing 50 people in one of our grocery stores for social distancing purposes and the store isn't that big. The bigger store is allowing 150 people. 10 people seems like hardly anything unless the building is really small.
My principal is having one grade level in at a time. In theory it sounds good because of less people, but grade level classrooms are all in the same spot. It would make more sense the way your school is doing it. However, I will add that I can't imagine closing everything down in 2 hours. Our end of year list is greatly reduced, and I am concerned that I am only being given a day to complete it.
We are allowed in the building, but only if we alert both the secretaries and the janitors. Our principal doesn't want too many people in the building at one time. We are also encouraged to make our visits short. Administration does not want us lingering in the building because our classrooms are considered clean zones, and every time we go into our classrooms, the janitors have to re-sanitize the classroom. The school is in the process of creating a plan to allow a limited number of staff at a time to go in, send home materials students forgot, and pack up their classrooms until school re-opens. I have no idea when they will allow me to take apart my classroom, though. Our entire district is small and we almost qualify as an extremely small rural school. Crowds and gatherings cannot be larger than fifty people in my state. I think my school has less than fifty teachers and staff in it, but if you add in students we go over that limit. I work in every building in my district, and the high school is stricter than the elementary school. The janitors forgot to tell a part-time worker at the high school I needed something from my classroom, and he would not let me in. Everyone at the elementary school knows me and knows I am a strict rules follower, so they generally let me in.
My building isn't small, but we are only allowed four teachers/staff (other than admin, maintenance, custodial, and food service staff) at any given time - one per floor/wing of building. We are a three story building, with one wing off to the side on the main level, hence the four people. Even though the staff mentioned in parentheses can be in the building during that time, I have yet to see more than two of them at a time. I've already spent eight hours closing down my room, and I'll be going back for another 2-3 hours today and/or next week. I'm actually packing up to move to a new room, so it is taking me much longer than most. I think I'd be very hesitant to go in to the building if we didn't have such strict social distancing measures in place.
We've been allowed in, but required to schedule and the access hours were restricted. For summer shutdown, they divided the building into zones and only two people are allowed in each zone at any time. If you share a classroom, there has to be 24 hours between your visits. We are each allotted a four-hour period to get everything done. Masks are required everywhere except in your room with the door closed. You have to log your temperature as well. I'm glad I don't have a homeroom because if I did I'd have to bag-n-tag the kids belongings that they left in desks and lockers. Our spring break was right before the shutdown order, so there's a lot left. On the other hand, I have two classrooms in two buildings, so scheduling is twice the hassle. I do my band room tomorrow and my music room next week.
Starting Monday we have five meetings at school over two weeks. The schedules are staggered so we don’t cross paths and have no more than 9 people in any single meeting.
The current social distancing rule is no gatherings of more than 10 people, and you're still supposed to be 6 feet apart.
The list we have will take me 20 minutes, if that. I don't really have trash to throw away and I don't keep tons of clutter on the counters, so those will be easy to clear. Anything I do have out is in bins that can just be placed on top of a shelf. The reduced closing list thing is one of the perks of this current situation- I've never understood why we had to tear apart an entire room just to put it all back the same way 2 months later anyway.
In our case, it’s because the custodians literally remove every piece of non-built in furniture to clean and wax the floors each summer. Some years, they paint the walls. We only have to remove things from the walls on those years. It is frustrating to have to pack everything up, but I get it. Fortunately, we have a lot of built-in furniture, including bookshelves, cabinets, and countertop space, so it’s not too difficult to take the other things and fit them in/on those spaces.
My building is open to the admin team and secretarial staff. It will be open next week for parents to pick up anything left by students. Teachers will be in or the next two days to back and label students' property. The admin team will oversee parent pickup. Teachers will be back to return district issued devices and keys on the last day of school.
We’re doing that next week. Parents have been blowing up our inboxes with requests to clean out lockers and what not.
We can come and go as we please but need to fill out a form first. A few weeks ago teachers had to call ahead to make sure it's not that many people. Now we can just go, but hardly anyone is there. I went in for 2 hours Monday to pick up packets, yesterday for 1 hour to drop something up and today for a couple of hours I'll be there to do reports and paperwork. It's due today so I assume more people will be there. Most teachers are very comfortable working from home, they already have everything they need so they hardly go in. I feel that we're not restricted, I like it.
