Are they just being nice?

Yesterday I received an email from a consortium alerting me of an opening at a charter school (charter schools are not part of the consortium). I was on my way back from an interview, so I was already all dressed up. I started pulling extra copies of everything from my portfolio and managed to have everything vital except, obviously, a cover letter. (Some things had bent corners, but it was the best I had at the moment!). I should note that I am searching for a job in a different state and I was only in town yesterday (I left at 7AM today). That is why I was rushing to drop off wrinkled papers.

Anyway, I got there at 3:50 and there were still cars there! Yay! The sign on the door said their office hours ended at 3. I went in anyway, and the office was dark (but open). I could hear kids, so I assume it was some time of tutoring program. I turned around and left. I e-mailed a cover letter and my resume immediately. When I got home (home home in NC), I had this e-mail

    Ms. giraffe,

Thank you for your application and interest in our school. We will be scheduling interviews within the next few weeks.

Please expect a telephone call from **secretary's name** to schedule this.

    **Principal's name***

So, are they being nice? Or should I really expect a call? I'd hate to think they'd give me false hope!

I would hope that they wouldn't say they were going to call unless they intended to do so but you just never know with some districts. If you don't hear back in a couple of weeks, I would follow up with a call to them. Good luck.

There is no need for them to "be nice", especially considering they didn't meet you. Expect a call.

    Yay :)

This school is about 2 miles from my parents' house. I actually lived 1/2 mile down the same road when I was 4-5 years old. I'm not crazy about charters in general, but I will pretty much take anything to get me back in the state.

I don't think they had any obligation to "be nice" in this situation, so expect a call :)

So exciting, congrats! It's a great example of a school doing exactly what they said they'll do :)

Well, I didn't get the ones I interviewed for on Monday. I knew on Tuesday. I think I dodged a bullet with one (interview felt wrong, P seemed like a witch). The other one.... I was their 2nd choice  They chose someone that grew up in their town with experience (it was about 95 miles from my hometown). The P was great and spent about 20 minutes on the phone with me telling me how great I am, how I remind her of her, and that I WILL get a job.

So hopefully this one will work out! I have tons of other apps out there, too, so I am still hopeful.

Oh, that's a bummer, I didn't realize. I really hope this one is a good fit and that they like you (it certainly seems they do so far)!

That's awesome that the P had so many nice things to say about you. Ps talk, so maybe she'll open a door for you somehow. :)

I agree! I got a call from a friend who said that a P from another school I interviewed for (who went with another candidate) had emailed her Principal and others to tell them that I was a great candidate looking for a job and they should look into me! I got an email from another school immediately. They do talk and because you're such a great candidate I'm sure the news will spread around :)

And I agree that you dodged a bullet on the witchy principal. A bad boss can break your spirit.
