Good Luck Beth! DO you have to interview for each position open in that building? Or is it one interview covers any openings they may have? When I taught, internal (anyone in the district)candidates had first interview option, then when everyone was shuffled around whatever grade(s) were open were posted.
As of right now there's only one opening in this building; a fifth grade position because someone is retiring. I'm interviewing for that position on Monday. It was posted internally first, but then was posted on the website so some of the people interviewing will probably already be working in the district (like me) and others will be from outside the district.
Ok, so I haven't had my official credentials sent yet, but some websites have told me that in order for my application to be complete I need to have letters of recommendation, teaching license, transcripts, etc. (Which I uploaded onto the website, so I don't have to mail those) and THEN it says I have to send my credentials with my student teaching evaluations in it. So, I am guessing they wont consider me until they get that. So far I have 4 schools on my list to get mailed out. I also am sick of filling out applications that basically make you repeat everything you already put on your resume. What a waste of time!!! Just look at my stupid resume (which I spent HOURS deliberating over and making look just right!) Thank goodness for "Copy and Paste!!!"
I just spoke with the teacher who is retiring (whose position I'm interviewing for on Mon.) and she said that when the principal spoke to them about the interviews there were 8 people that they were going to interview. Soo...I guess I'm up against 7 other people. Not too bad, but who knows what their qualifications are?!
Oh, I hope so! My "partner" teacher in the room next door to me told me that she's kicking herself for not getting on the interview committee, but she's telling everyone who will listen what a great job I'm doing! She told me she already spoke with the principal about me so hopefully that will help too.
The school I interviewed with on Tuesday told me that "There's no timeline as of right now." and I don't know about the one I'm working at, but I'm assuming they'll be making a decision soon.
It'd be nice to have a date in mind. That way you wouldn't have to wait around for them if it was past that date. The school I got hired at was in a time crunch, and I kept calling the principal. I called one day and spoke to her, asking her if she knew anything yet. She said not yet, and 2 hours later called me at one of my jobs (fast food place) and told me I was hired. I put in my 2 month notice right then. Of course, they knew I was going to leave around that time anyway (I had worked there for 8 years...since I turned 16).
I hate not having a date in mind, but the way I see it is if they're interviewing already at the beginning of April they must want to appoint people to positions early.
Aye good luck Jamie! I have my BIG job fair tomorrow at one of my top three districts. They have 5 positions that I want and about 45 that I qualify for (one of the largest districts in Texas with 61 schools). I also hate having to wait to hear back. Especially, if it is a job I really want. If I did not get it that is fine but I hate to string other people along if I did get it or lose out on a job because I thought the other was in the bag
Good Luck TexaAggie2323! That does sound like a BIG job fair. Hope they are able to make a decision soon!
Thanks, it did not go that great. I was the first person interviewed with one team and I really botched one of my answers. I went blank on what the definition of "empathy" mean and instead of b.s.ing what I thought it meant I said that I did not understand the question and if they would please rephrase it. They did not so I didnt get any points for that question and did not make the next round of interviews. I either did not do well enough in the interview or the position that I wanted did not have any extra interview sessions since it was a social studies position that will involve coaching. Then I went to talk to the coaching staff. The opening that I wanted for boys basketball was a misprint and that was a downer but they did like my qualifications so we will see.
Oh how frustrating when the mind decides to go blank...hate that feeling of the brain shutting off! UGH. Hopefully something will turn up from today, maybe the coaching staff will keep you in mind.
Oh, So you are the one that sets up the appointment, not them?? My hubby says that its suppose to be that way for him in sales, sowhy not interviews?? Yuck. I have always heard we'll call you when we are ready.... its already filled..... we aren't looking yet.... Hey your brochure was so professinal looking, my hubby says if you ever want to leave teaching and try the advertising world, he'd hire you!! He was very impressed, and I gotta tell you that is hard to do. Thanks for the sample.
Well, I've got my interview at 8:45 tomorrow morning. I'm a little bit nervous, but this will be my third interview in the past month so I'm starting to feel pretty comfortable with the whole process. Besides, this will be the 3rd time this principal has interviewed me and I know all of the teachers that will be there so I guess it's really not a big deal. I don't know how good my chances are of actually getting the position since they're interviewing 7 other people and one of them is a student teacher right now whose CT is on the interviewing committee, but we'll see.
Does the principal tend to repeat the same question in interviews? If he does that is good. You already kind of know what he will ask you.
The first interview I went on there he pretty much asked all of the questions and the teacher I ended up subbing for didn't say much. The last time, though, he didn't ask anything and the teacher I'm subbing for asked all of the questions. I'm thinking that the teachers on the interviewing committee will be doing most of asking tomorrow.
I also agree that it depends on the questions not necessarily who is asking them. The last interview I went on the teachers and principal asked me questions, but they were from a list that they had come up with ahead of time so it really didn't matter who asked what question.
I just got back from my interview. It went very well. They basically just asked me about what I like about the subjects I teach and other things related to what I'm doing right now. I felt really comfortable speaking with them and I feel good about it. There are 7 other people interviewing, though so we'll see how it goes. Our April vacation starts this Friday, though, so the principal said that they'll narrow it down to 2 candidates by Wednesday afternoon and then Thursday he'll take his first choice to meet with the superintendent....so I'll know whether I have a job or not by Thursday! I'm happy that the timeline is so short so that I wont be wondering over vacation. Then after vaca they're interviewing for two possible 5th grade openings for next year so I'll be interviewed again if I don't get this one. Wish me luck!!
Thanks! Yeah, I'm really happy that it's going to be such a short wait. This way whether I get the job or not at least I won't be worrying about it all vacation.....I'll just have to worry about another interview for one of the anticipated 5th grade position the week after vaca.
Yes. The one I interviewed for today is for a teacher who is retiring so it is a definite position. The other two that they will be interviewing for after vacation are anticipated. The fourth grade class that will be fifth graders here next year is a very large class and they want to add two new fifth grade teachers, but it depends on the budget and they may not know for sure until summer time.
I find it interesting that you would have to interview for each position in the same building. Keeping my fingers crossed that this is the one!!
Well, if it's the same interview committee I probably wouldn't have to interview again. If different teachers volunteer to participate in the interviews, though I would probably have to interview with them. Let's hope I don't have to worry about that, though!
I am happy for you , Beth. That's great that th interview went well and the wait will be short. It's really nice that they'd also invite you to try for another position if this one doesnt' work out. Let us know the results, Thursday. We'll wait on baited breath. By the way will they let you observe in the classrooms to see how the teams work together this year if you get it? I am always curious if they will. Maybe one day soon I will find out. Now wouldn't that be soo outrageously cool if I knew now that Ihad a job for next year :sigh: Here's to hope. Cheers to you and best wishes/ munchkin
With luck and the no child left behind act maybe that will help push for a lossening o the purse strings to enable the schools to make their class sizes smaller. By the way, how big are your average class sizes??
Right now the fifth grade classes are only around 22 or 23. The fourth grade classes are at about 25 or 26 and when they come to fifth grade they will be joined by fifth graders from another school (it's a very confusing regionalized district!) so the class sizes will be closer to 30 if they don't hire 2 new teachers to form an additional "two man" team.
