Some of you may remember the situation about 6 weeks ago where I had to interview for a first grade position at my school and I didn't get the job. My school isn't going to have any opportunities for switching grades in the near future, and I really would like to teach a grade other than kindergarten.

So, today I am applying for a job at a different school in the district. Here is why some people would think that I'm crazy...Some features of my school:

    -My classroom contains:
-6 new mini laptops (I got them through a grant and they
would have to stay at my school.)
-A document camera (also with my grant money, and would
    stay at the school)
    -A smartboard
    -A bathroom
-Most students at my school come from great families. I have had 21 students in my class for the past 3 years, and each year only one student came from a divorced home. Everything is so consistent, and parents are on top of things and care. There is very little family/parent drama.
-My school has a large amount of resources and supplies for teachers. I can pretty much get anything I want for supplies, and we have an entire classroom filled with guided reading books. I'm really spoiled!

At this other school, the population is a little more difficult, they do not have very many smartboards, and I do not know what they have for resources and supplies. However, I'm really excited at the possibility of going to this school because I think I would love 2nd grade, and I heard this 2nd grade team is a lot of fun. Also, they have a new principal, who used to be my mentor, and I really like her.

I guess there really isn't a point to this post, except to say wish me luck! :D I think I would be really happy switching schools next year, even though I would have less teaching tools to work with. They used to teach with just chalkboards and chalk, right? ;)

Best of luck to you! Teaching is more than nice things... I'd rather teach at a school with great people than great stuff!;) I left a school for the opportunity to teach with a more "progressive" staff and my mentor! Best move I ever made!!! Your coworkers are so important! I can honestly say I LOVE the people I work with! I hope you get the opportunity to move! Just think, you can write another grant for supplies! ;)

I agree with MandaNicole, I would much rather work with a great team and people. I love where I work because of the people I work with.

    Good Luck DP

I completely understand. I would rather teache middle school with no supplies at all than to teach primary grades. That's just what I love and it's a better fit for me. Those perks can't make up for the right fit. Go for it!! Good luck!!

There's a lot to be said for doing what your heart tells you to be doing. I've always said a great teacher could teach on a deserted island with sand and stick-it's not the technology that makes a great working experience. Imagine being excited to go to work every day! I do wish you luck.:thumb:

Yes, I do remember that situation, and how odd the principal was being. Well, good luck! I think you need to do what you need to do to be happy.

I just saw my new classroom yesterday and all it has is chalkboard and chalk. Though there is a lap top cart we can sign up to use; one cart for a school of 600 students.

Best of luck on your interview. Moving to a grade you would rather teach means a whole lot more than the technology stuff.

Good luck, DP! Remember-Sprout is always here to hook you up with your supplies for cheap, but I can't do a darn thing about your co-workers or principal. ;)

Well, I had my interview today. I think it went pretty well. I interviewed in front of 8 people, which really surprised me! In retrospect, there are a few questions I wished I would have answered a little differently, but it's too late now!

They had a few internal interviews today, and tomorrow they will spend the day doing external interviews. So I should know by Friday. I feel like I'm ok either way...I would like to teach a different grade, but at the same time I really enjoy my school (for the most part), and staying in kindergarten for the 4th year in a row would require a lot less prep time this summer.

    So, now I wait!

Of course- there are always things you wish you said or didn't in some cases! lol But I bet you did fine. Good luck! Cannot wait to hear the results! Good luck! I hope you do something fun to take your mind off of it and to relax and celebrate getting this far through the process!

Yay, DP!!! I'm hoping this will be a great fit for you--and you're right about the people being more important than other things (it's kept me at a small parochial school 500 miles from home for 5 years now...)
