Is it bad that I don't ever really think too much about the different tastes? I always lose track of the kind of apple that I have (except for the sticker on it that says what it is :)). I love apple pie, but rarely have that...am most used to just slicing an apple up into four pieces and eating it at lunch, ha.

    Caramel dip sounds delicious, though...

I get goosebumps not only when I eat apples, but even when I see others eating them. I love them but don't eat much of any of them.

I like granny smiths best but I'll eat any kind except macintosh. Those just rub me the wrong way. I like apple crisp better than apple pie so that's what I usually make. I do like the caramel dip. There's an apple fest in a few weeks so I might check it out.

Pink Lady's are my all time favorite, with Granny Smith's just a little ways back. I like hard and crisp with lots of juice. Both of these favorites keep well without becoming mealy. I like Weinsaps, but no one else in the house will eat them, so they stay at the store.

And caramel is the PERFECT compliment to the perfect apple!

I like Fuji apples. Once in a blue moon, I'll go to the Rocky Mtn Chocolate factory & get a candy apple. I like their Apple Pie Apple. Haven't gotten one in at least a year now.

I have a few apples on my tree in the yard! I think they are red delicious but I"m not sure. I think I'll pick them and make a small apple crisp. I don't think I have enough to make a pie! My fruit trees don't seem to do well at all :(

Honeycrisps are my absolute favorite!!! And I like apples just about any way you can fix them... except juice. I definitely OD'd on apple juice as a kid.

Peregrin5 - I feel your pain. It stinks to develop an allergy to a favorite food as an adult!

I can't stomach apple juice but I love apple cider! Yesterday I treated myself to a Starbuck's Caramel Apple Spice drink. I've waited all year for that!

I love Honeycrisp apples, but almost never buy them because they tend to cost twice as much as other varieties. One of our local markets has huge bins of apples fresh from the orchard--yesterday I picked up some Mutsu--love them at this time of year!

Wow, that is sad. :( I love peaches and apples, so that would really depress me. That said, can you still eat citrus and melons? The seasons aren't as broad, but at least there would be great fruit to enjoy!

Can someone tell me about Sweet Tango? I don't know that variety. I can do Fuji, I am not crazy for Honeycrisps, and don't get me started on Delicious. Gala works when fresh, but the texture changes if they are stored long. The Mutsu that are grown locally leave me cold - no real flavor. Can't understand that, as others rave about them. The worst thing about apples is that it means the summer goodies are on the wane!

So, I was at the grocery store yesterday and I wanted to try a different type of apple. I picked one up that I thought was a Kiku or something but I had actually grabbed a Sweet Tango. I brought it for lunch today so I'll let you know how it was.

SweeTango is a hybrid apple developed a couple of years ago at the University of Minnesota. It combines Zestar and Honeycrisp. I love them, they are more crisp and not overly sweet.

We always made our own apple dip when I was a kid. It has a sort of caramely taste:

    1 stick cream cheese, softened
    1/2 c. brown sugar (packed)
    1 tsp. vanilla

You can add chopped peanuts to it if you want. Delicious, especially on a tart apple!

Wow, that apple, and dip, are just begging to be eaten! Since it is almost my lunch, I can so relate. I am guessing that the dip will have to wait for a while, but that apple is in real peril. Oh well, it hung around on a tree all summer just waiting for this moment. It only wants to be enjoyed! :p

We eat just about any apple...not a big fan of delicious apples though...honeycrisps, jonamacs, macs, galas.... YUMMY!!!
We go to local orchard & get unpasteurized cider....
Love PB on apple, caramel... I make what I guess they call in the south a "brown betty" basically an apple pie with out crust...just the crunchy topping!!! YUMMY!!!

I'm not a fan of apple pie. I'd rather make an apple crisp which sounds like the brown betty. If I eat pie I usually eat the insides and leave the crust so I'd rather just leave out the crust! I think I'll take an apple from my tree this weekend and chop it up in some oatmeal for breakfast.

I chop up the apples and put it in a pot with a tiny bit of butter, cinnamon and stevia. Sometimes I will add brown sugar. I let the apples soften a bit then add quick oats and water until it cooks up. I could eat that every day in the fall but I'm trying not to eat too many carbs!

The sweet tango apples turned out to be pretty good. A bit tart but sweeter than granny smiths, if that makes any sense. Very juicy too!

I found another juicy apple at the store this week - Envy. From NZ, of course, which raises the price a bit, but very crunchy and juicy, and I think the sweet apple people will love it. I "experimented" because that's what science teachers do, and I can report that it works very well with the caramel apple dip. So well that I may need to go out to buy more apples and dip.
