Thanks for sharing! Would you mind describing each area? I know some are obvious but like the two carpet areas, which do you use for whole group? One carpet is class library? Where do they do word work, games, etc.? Also wondering do you do whole class writing or other lessons with students at their seats? If so, how do they all see the board well enough, tables look so far away?
first grade classroom here are a few pictures from my room last year. This changed quite a bit as it wasn't flowing as well as I had wanted.
I like how simple and clean it looks. Super organized. I feel like it's so easy to do too much in primary classrooms.
mk- a couple of questions: 1. What's on the other side of the room? 2. You mentioned not being happy with the flow? In what way?
The other side of the room was my desk, filing cabinets and the student computer. I didn't have any good pictures of that side since it was mostly storage space (I had no built in storage). I switched to tables last year from desks, and I had 5 tables in my room in the beginning. The 5th table took up way to much space, so after fall break, I got rid of it. I also moved the white metal cube shelves away from the front of the door. It was getting too congested when students needed to get their book bins and we couldn't form a straight line to exit the classroom. I moved my library away from our whole group floor area because I had students playing around with the books in the middle of lessons. I also wasn't happy with the lack of storage for materials at the tables. With desks, the students could have all their books and folders and notebooks in their desks for easy storage and access. With the tables, I had to come up with a new system and it took me a while to find a way that I liked. I ended up putting small shelves at the end of each table that held the folders, notebooks and textbooks.
