Reading another post, I found out some are already on break.
Our school dismisses at noon on Dec. 24th.
    Anyone else go this long?

School on Christmas Eve? That would never fly here. So much is not even open that day.

    Nope.

We have exams Monday and Tuesday, with the makeup day Wednesday. If this blizzard forces a snow day, that could possibly bump back a day. But then makeups would take place after Christmas.

We're done on the 23rd, and any district around me that I know of is done then as well. I cannot imagine a public school open on the 24th for even half a day. When I worked at a child care center though we were open on the 24th until 4pm.

Wow, I can't imagine how crazy that day must be for you! Our last day was last Friday and we go back on the 4th (kids come back the 5th).

I am done the 22nd but know some done the 23rd. I can't imagine you'd even have enough kids there to make it count as a day on the 24th. I would not send my child. My family celebrates on the 24th and people like me are 700 miles away! Ridiculous!

Actually it isn't too bad school wise.
8:30-9:15 Entire grade 2 with me for snowman craft
    9:15-9:45 Gym class
9:45-10:15 Students CLEAN and organize anything they can find!
10:15-11:00 Entire grade 2 with other teacher for a craft
11:00-11:15 Pack up and wash up
    11:15-11:55 Lunch & recess
    12:00 "MOVE THAT BUS!"

Personally, it makes my day long and thus often sucks the spirit out of me. :( I've done this for 17 years though...unless Christmas Eve falls on a weekend.

    I agree...Ridiculous!
However it have been this way for my entire 17 years, so it's standard.

    Surprisingly, we have great attendance.
    I have 15 students and expect 14.
One other will leave 'early' at 11:15.
I think families who do not travel appreciate the fact they can get last minute things done without children at home.

When I was in Elementary School Christmas Eve was a 1/2 day. I also remember doing Christian-y art projects & songs. But then again we only got Good Friday off at Easter.

My kids & I have always gotten 2 weeks off at Christmas.

WHAT?! School on Christmas Eve? I'm lucky if I can buy gas on Christmas Eve! This is one of the most surprising things I have ever read on this forum, truly.

Our last day is the 23rd. Friends of mine had their last day yesterday. BOO to them.

Actually, with the 2 feet of snow outside my door, I'm thinking that my last day may have been yesterday, too.

Wow, Rabbitt, if you manage to go from Labor Day to Memorial Day, that's pretty impressive. I imagine you're enjoying it when everyone around you is going until mid-June...

Our only breaks are Thanksgiving and Christmas and noon dismissal on Good Friday. We are done at noon on Thursday before Memorial Day.

I have gotten used to it. BUt would still prefer more breaks in the school year.

My last day, which is the center's last day before break, is the 23rd until noon. I don't think many kids will show up, though. Half the class was gone the day before Thanksgiving.

The current schedule has us giving trimester exams tomorrow and Tuesday (along with last Friday.)

But a possible (But probably not likely) snow day could push us all into work on the makeup day, the 23rd.

Rabbitt~R u in a public system? I probably would not make it in your system. I was complaining about having to work Monday and Tuesday. For me, it is not about the holiday; it is about some rest and recuperation. It gives you time to regroup and start anew.

I just read that you do not have a spring break. I do hate school in June but by April I really need a week off.

But I'm all set for Christmas, so it's all OK.
