Remind them to register with www.finaid.com and fill out a profile.

It's run by the people who do monster.com It's a huge financial aid search engine, and it's free to register. It was included in the article in this month's Good Housekeeping magazine.

The kids have nothing to lose, but everything to gain by registering.

And this site also sells mailing and email adresses for spamming.

Our school actively discourages this site in particular, as does the local college financial aid office..

Sorry, Alice, but even Good Housekeeping gets paid for approval any more.

Yeah, stick with sites that have a *.net; *.org, *.edu extension and you will make much better choices and bet much better information for financial aid.

For darn sure, tho, make sure everybody files a FAFSA form as soon as possible.

The FAFSA for the 08-09 school year won't be available until Jan. 1, 2008. If they fill out the FAFSA now, it will be for this current school year. Also, their parents will need their 07 taxes filed before it can be completely filled out.
