I was taking Armour which helped my thyroid in terms of numbers, but since there was a shortage, I started taking a compounded form that the pharmacy said was the same thing as Armour - derived from a pig. Well after taking that for the past 3 months, my blood work showed that it looks like I wasn't even taking anything so my number is high when the TSH should be < 2! My doctor said she knows of another company that gets their supply from another company. It's frustrating waiting months to see results. I have been feeling extra cold lately (as low as 95) and it's thyroid-related so I'm eager to get it fixed!
I've been on Synthroid since birth and I've always been told never to take the generic versions of thyroid meds because they're not the same. I'm sorry this happened to you-- I know how frusterating and uncomfortable it is to have your levels off-- it's happened to me many times. Good luck and hopefully your doc will get your the suppplements you need!
I heard the same thing about the generic versions. There is not always the exact dosage in them that they say, and with your thyroid it matters that it is exact. I was on Levothyroxine with one endocronologist...and went to see a new one and she put me on Synthroid. Things are much better!
