Is anyone else student teaching this "fall"... I put "fall" in quotes because I actually start on the 13th of August which is the DEAD OF SUMMER here! LOL. Plus we don't really get a fall here, it's over 100 degrees until November! :)

    Where are you student teaching?

And when did you find out you were placed? What school do you go to?

I am asking so many questions because I was supposed to be student teaching and no one contacted me...school starts in a week at the district I was looking at. So I took a job (intership I guess) instead.

    Kenny-
Does your college set up your student teaching assignment, or did you have to find one on your own? I student taught last year, and my college placed me. We went to an orientation prior to the start of school. If your college places you, I would call them and see what's going on, or you might want to call the district you are scheduled to be in and make sure they received your paperwork.

ya, they (my school) don't place you...they want you to get placement on your own. I have been talking to and calling my school and districts for going on 4 months now..I'm totally not bitter. not at ALL.

At the university where I go they place you and Internship is separated into Internship 1 and 2. During Internship 1 you go to the classroom every Wednesday and during Int. 2 you go everyday. I will start the second part on August 20th in a first grade, bilingual classroom. I am kinda nervous!

I'll either start student teaching or an internship on August 27th. I can't believe how late school starts this year! I'm glad it won't be the 13th, though. That's my birthday. :)

I'm teaching grade 7! I don't think I would have the patience to start with the young ones. :) so I chose year 7's instead.

I'm resilient to cheek though and i'm fairly sure ill be receiving a lot of that over the next semester

I received my confirmation in May for September. I requested a specific teacher, grade, and school and got all three. This is the same school where I did my two 75-hr practicums in 1st and 5th grade. My student teaching will be in 3rd grade. I have student teacher orientation on August 22 at my university. Teachers report the following week and school begins the day after Labor Day.:)

You are lucky, I applied in March, with a school, teacher and grade for July. They said they placed me, but never contacted me. I called them, and they were pretty rude to me. Sounds like you have a great system. Although, I can't complain, i didn't get left high and dry. But I will be busy this fall with a classroom of my own, alongside of school.

I'll be student teaching this fall. I know the school I'll be at, but don't yet know which teachers I'll be working with. We have to do two grade levels, primary (k-2) and intermediate (3-5). Unfortunately, school starts August 15 and student teaching doesn't start until September 5, so I won't be with them from the very beginning.

I am supposed to student teach (3-5) this fall as well. My university is supposed to set everything up for us. I know a couple of people who have already been contacted by their cooperating teacher, and are planning to attend a couple of professional development workshops before school actually starts. Unfortunately, the one single person who handles all of this is still on vacation, and she hasn't given me my information yet! Arrrgghhh!

    Ugh that's frustrating!!!

I start tomorrow. No kids until the 13th but I'm going to help my teacher set up her classroom and attend the pre-school events (ie district stuff, school focused workshops, etc) and meet the teacher night is on Thursday.

I start my student teaching assignment on the 20th--we are doing inservice. SChool starts on the 27th. I'm with 2nd grade for the first 7 weeks and in K for the last 7 weeks (so it ends on Nov 30).

Can't wait... I live in a small town, so I already know both of my mentor teachers. Inf act, the Kindergarten teacher is one I worked for as her personal aide years ago! I'm excited!!!!

I offically start in two weeks...but the school starts Monday. I would like to go in and watch how the teacher gets all the kids on the right track on the first day and so on.

Im student teaching in a 1st and 2nd grade cross cat. classroom.

Im excited but extremely nervous about being responsible for the whole classroom. I have a classroom plan in my head, but performing it is a different story.

I start the day after Labor Day, when the students start. I just got my school placement today but do not know yet what grade I will be with. Hopefully I'll find that out soon, but at least I know where I'll be so that's exciting. I did my paper work late and I was worried I might not get a placement at all.

I'm student teaching in 5th grade this year. I met my teacher a few weeks ago and she's great. Our school picks the assignments for us (they won't let us do our own). We are required to do a week of Seminar (inservice at the college) and then we start at the elementary on the 27th.

Hey you gals from AZ, where are you from? My parents and sister live in AZ and I was born there. Just curious...

I started this Monday with all the pre-student stuff. It has been to get to know the school better before I step into the class, especially since I am starting on the 1st day of school.

I wasn't that nervous yet, until all the other teaches starting telling how nervous they were getting ;)

I am excited, but there is a lot to take in this week.

Definitely a lot to take in but once you get through the first day and depending on how well your teacher incorporates you into the classroom it'll be an easy transition. At least from my experience it has been, the kids come to me as often as they go to my mentor teacher for questions, etc. They listen ALMOST as well to me as they do to her. :)

This is about my 7th week student teaching and it's getting better, The students are a real good bunch, there are some difficult ones, but I can deal with them okay. Taking lessons is slowly getting better, was very daunting at first. Everyone staring at you... so nervous... I dislike behaviour management though.

kenny2teach: there is a thread (under General Education, I think) entitled What a Teacher Can Do, in which they disuss just these issues of management. Some of the suggestions are in jest, but there are MANY ideas posted there that could very well help you!
