Hi everyone! Currently I sub in one district on L.I but would love the experience of working in a city school. I know currently you need to be nominated by a city principal to become a NYC sub, but I was wondering if anyone knew how to go about getting in another way. I have no ties/connections to anyone in the education field so getting nominated is unlikely. I was thinking of sending my resume to the NYC districts or schools but wasn't sure if it would be a waste of time or unprofessional. I appreciate any and all feedback, thanks!
http://schools.nyc.gov/TeachNYC/personnel/Substitutes/substitutes.htm You need to be nominated by a school principal. I recommend visiting some schools to drop off your resume. Explain that you have substitute teaching experience and are looking to work in the public school system. It's not easy to get a nomination letter but it's good that you have experience already. If a school has had difficulty finding substitutes, it's possible they will help you out in the hopes of you being a regular sub for them.
