I feel like I’ve been out sick every couple weeks this year. It’s my sixth year and I’ve NEVER been out as much as I have this year. I haven’t even gotten COVID, which is bizarre, but I’ve somehow managed to get every single other bug going around even when masked. Anyone else taking more days than usual this year?
I haven't taken any days off. I had some sinus issues a while back but that was over winter break so I just rested for a few days and I was fine.
I think everyone's immune system has be build back up again because we've been wearing masks for way too long and now people are catching everything much more easily. Next year will probably be better.
I second that. It has been a terrible sinus year. My ONLY sick days of the year was because I tested pos for Covid. I had Omicron, which I would call an inconvenience not an illness. I was forced to take sick days and stay home.
I had a little sinus thing last weekend but it wasn't a huge deal. I was just talking with a teammate and trying to decide if kids really are sneezing, coughing, etc. more or we're just noticing it more now that masks are finally off. I've definitely had a ton of kids with cold symptoms. One of the other elementary schools in our district actually just had a covid outbreak and had to go remote for a week because they didn't have enough staff. That is crazy to me. We hadn't had any remote learning since Feb. of LAST school year (2021) before this.
Welllll, I haven't called out sick. That's what I meant We can ask for days off and I've done that LOL
Now that I think about it, this has been the majority of my sick days as well. It's not as bad as my old school, thankfully, but my sinuses have definitely been cranky this year.
Peoples' immune systems are weakened for obvious reasons. We were used to being exposed to various things and our immunity built up. Wearing masks so long messed that all up. It's really common sense.
I think my immune system is weakened from 2 years of avoiding other humans and then going straight into a job where I interact with 400 kids a day. I’d be more worried if I didn’t work in an elementary school lol. plus allergies have been just terrible this year. Even my CAT is having worse allergies than ever.
