We found out earlier this afternoon before the students left for the day. It may even get cold enough for the governor to cancel statewide! Minnesota is off already. Planning to stay inside and stay warm!

How on earth can school already be cancelled? Monday is 2 whole days away! We would NEVER cancel this early. Enjoy your weekend knowing that's its a 3 day weekend!

The temps that are expected are that extreme, and I believe that, given the position of the jet stream, the cold is almost a certainty. This will also give parents the chance to make arrangements for children.

On the news this morning they said it was warmer in your freezer than outside in Minnesota!

    Good luck staying warm!

They have used the words "deadly" and "brutal" to describe the cold headed our way. We are supposed to get start getting snow tonight.

I think we will be out Monday & Tuesday. If we get any snow, the cold will keep the mountain & secondary roads slick. I'm going to school tomorrow afternoon to add a note to my sub plans. I've got a LTS coming Wednesday, but I'd planned on being there Monday & Tuesday. If we are out, my sub will have to work with my grade-level partner to revamp my plans.

Yep...we are open for business. Jeeeeesh! Our district said parents can choose to keep their darlings at home and they will receive an excused absence....? Free babysitting anyone? You know only the brats will show up! Lol!

This is so ridiculous!!! I hate how they are not thinking about the safety of the staff and the very few children who will be sent to school. I think that the safe passage workers will also have to work.

Even the Univ of Chicago is closed tomorrow! My daughter said she will just work on her research from home; no lab work.

I missed the snowstorm last week. I was in Florida at Disney World! Now that I'm back, we get 1/10th of an inch. Ha.

To add insult to injury, the district announced that parents can drop their kids off at school 1 1/2 hours early??? Hello?? And who is going to be there to entertain them at 6:30am? Ridiculous! I hope no one shows up for school! Movie day on my Promethean board!

    We are open yet too.
Our bus garage has announced they will not be running buses Monday or Tuesday. I'd guess 80% or more take the bus.
Wind chill warning until noon Tuesday.

If everyone has a few students, can you combine them?
I'm thinking one teacher could teach while the other has prep and then swap?

Even if it's different levels, there is checkers, buddy reading, Battleship, UNO, etc

Columbus City Schools just announced closure due to wind chill factors, and they'll probably do so on Tuesday. I'm expecting other schools to follow this lead. Since my school is online, we will only close if our servers lose power, which only happened once, when Hurricane Ike went through the Midwest and took out most of Ohio's power.

Yay! I was really wondering how I would start my car and I have a brand new one!! There would have been a lot of classrooms without teachers or subs. Yes...they did allow kids to stay home in2011. I can't remember if teachers had to work or not back then. I am staying up tonight and enjoying my tomorrow off! I hope Wisconsin closes too!:hugs:

I went to school today to make copies & update sub plans, and I got the call while I was there. I'd say we will be out Tuesday, and maybe Wednesday if we get much snow.

If they are out Wednesday, I won't lose a sick day, so that would be a plus.

I am nervous about my car starting Tuesday. It didnt start Thursday so we got it jumped. Now it has been sitting for a couple days and I don't think it stands a chance. We will definitely have school Tuesday, it's supposed to be 9 degrees which is balmy after tomorrow!

Counties around me are declaring States of Emergency. My county is working on it. Schools closed hours ago for tomorrow.

Cancellations suck as a sub! I'll be lucky if we are back on Wednesday!!!

We're closed and even OSU closed-it was supposed to be their first day of classes! We went on a two hour delay for like an hour. Then the rest of the county closed and off we went!

We are closed, like I knew we would be. We already used our 3 built-in days, so we will be heading back after Memorial Day now...

The silver lining: My fiance, who is in graduate school in St. Louis, is also closed (they got hammered with close to a foot of snow right before the temperatures plummeted) so he was able to stay here another day (and, I'm hoping, maybe a few more...)

My students are annoyed that we're still on for school today while their friends get to sleep in. They'll stop complaining when their friends have to go to school during their usual Spring Break or well into June.

We are closed today and tomorrow. We found out last night around 7:30 pm. When we return on Wednesday, we have a field trip. Nothing like a stressful shake-up to the routine to welcome us back!

Some schools here have announced that they are closed through Wednesday.
I'm starting to panic- since I am just subbing, this is terrible! I budgeted for 2 weeks off, but they were off the last day before break, and now probably 3 days this week!

The cold over there in your neck of the woods is all the talk over here (of course, teachers just came back from spending their vacation in the states and Canada). I've heard most states are colder than normal. Is that true? I've been watching too much Netflix and clearly need to turn on the news.

I'd be jealous, but today was a workday for us and it's 60 degrees/sunny outside, so I don't feel too bad. ;)

I heard someone using a shovel against the cement outside my window and thought I was back in MI, but I think they were just moving some dirt. Stay warm, you guys, and enjoy the days off! A fire and some popcorn sounds wonderful!
