I have. The P called me to tell me I got the job, but the P "recommends" you to HR. Then HR called me the next day with the official offer.
And you said in the other thread that you did not even have your references in yet!! The only thing with me is the P said they could not officially tell me if I got it or not. I would have to wait for HR to tell me. Hmm.
When I got the job the AP told me unofficially (he ran out to my car after the interview b/c they knew I was headed to a couple more interviews.) But HR calls you w/ to officially offer you the job.
I can't wait either. Is there anyone who would be willing to pm me to talk about salary here. I know how much you start off making but I want to know about how much I will make with all of the deductions takin out. I completely understand if you do not feel comfortable.

MsBee, one thing to ask is if the school makes the VRS contribution or if you do. If YOU do, that is a difference of several thousand dollars. Regardless though, $44k for Fairfax might sound like a lot, but living on that in the area will require good budgeting. It can be done, but roommate/s would be very helpful here. In Fairfax, the HR office used to have lists of new teachers wanting roommates; maybe they still do. Or, you could ask at whatever school hires you. The office admins at my new school sent out an email to all the new hires telling us to get in touch if we needed this.
Depending on where you are in FFX, you also may be able to find young grad students to room with. There are many nearby schools (Georgetown, George Mason, Marymount, etc). Check out craigslist! I also second the fact that $44K to live in Fairfax will be challenging. It's not a cheap place to live! It's possible, you'll just need to work on those budgeting skills!
I have great budgeting skills. I just need to figure out how much I will make when they take everything out of my check. I am looking at apartments and need to know what I can afford. Anyone know? I was someone sent me a message saying about how much. Anyone else.

It depends on where you are working in Fairfax. There are a lot of apartments in the Fair Lakes area. I used to live there, and it was very convenient to a lot...short trip to the Metro, lots of shopping, very safe. Are you going it alone or looking for a roommate?
Most of Fair Lakes is pretty safe. A lot of the complexes there give discounts for teachers (did you ask HR for a list? they have a list like this I know for 100% fact--a similar list exists for fire/police). Ditto Fairfax Corners. I lived in Fairfax near the new Wegmans for 4 months before a move. It is a nice area with a lot to do around. They aren't cheap, but the apartments are very nice and it is a very safe area. Actually, the building we were in had at least 2 patrol officers, complete with squad car parked in the lot. Depending on demand, Fairfax *might* have subsidized housing--did you ask? Usually it is a perk to draw in critical need people, but if they have extra, it is open to anyone. If they haven't been doing a lot of hiring this year, it is possible. Most of those are in the Fairfax Corners area and you could save $400+ a month. There are some areas on the fringes of Fair Lakes that are lower income and are not very nice, but you would mostly make too much for those anyway since they are usually section 8.
