My husband and I are considering moving to Alaska. Actually, he has been trying to talk me into it for several years now so I figure I better look into it.

So my question is, do any of you teach in Alaska? How easy is it to get a job teaching there and what is the pay like in relation to the cost of living? I'm not talking about the "bush" part, but about areas around Anchorage and Juneau. I don't want to live in remote areas of Alaska.

If you know of someone or have experience yourself I would appreciate any information.

    Thanks in advance!

There used to be a poster from Alaska, but I can't remember who it was.

    Does anyone else remember?

I think I used to confuse bonneb with JustMe, and I still think every now and then that JustMe is in Alaska. (I know she isn't.)

Isn't in Alaska that you get some sort of extra $$?

And while looking that up I came across this page that I bet will be way more helpful to you than we are!

I have seen that website. I was just hoping to find a teacher to talk to as well.

My aunt used to be a teacher in Alaska. She was recruited from the South in the early 70s are an incentive program. She absolutely loves it there, the only downside is there is something weird about her teacher retirement plan where if she moves out of Alaska back to the South, she doesn't get her pension.

She taught in a small village school for several years, before moving to Anchorage where the school was much bigger and more like here.

I don't know if all Alaskan pensions are like that, but it's something I would look into just incase.
