Has any special day classroom teacher who instructs students with moderate/severe disabilities ever used the Brigance Inventory of Early Development III (2013 ed.) yet? I need to assess another student who is much lower functioning about the functional age of 2-4 years at the most. She is a high school student and I read this assessment works for students who function at age 8 and younger and it can be used at all levels of students from 1 month to 8 years. Let me know if you actually have used this assessment to determine which skills your student has acquired in the past three years. I teach students in a high school setting. Troy in Downey, Ca
Well, it probably would "work" in that the student can be tested with it, but I'm not sure the information from the assessment would do you any good. I mean, how does it help to know that a HS-aged student can stack 5 blocks and roll over? The skills are just so basic, and meant for young children. The results will tell you nothing about the next steps in working with this student. It sounds as though you are working on a triennial assessment. Can you possibly use a checklist from a curriculum like the COACH or LCCE? They would at least be age appropriate. I also have a checklist that I use for my HS students. PM me if you would like me to send it to you.
I sent you a PM, please check it out. It contains my email address as well. Thank you so much because it's so hard to find assessments for this level that have some meaning on how well they are learning skills. Troy
