I am looking for a musical that I can do with Kindergarten students and possibly with the help of older students. Does anyone know where I might start looking? I don't want to have to put it together so I would like it to be with dialog included and songs and all that good stuff. Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Really Rosie is a broadway musical. The music is by Carol King and the story is based on nutshell books by Maurice Sendak. You wouldn't have to do the whole thing, but there are lots of good songs... Chicken Soup with Rice which does the months of the year, sticks out in my mind. You could easily get the CD and they could sing along. I have a picture book of the whole play, and the music is in the back if you have someone who could play piano.

Here is a link to the book. It has a full script and music.

I don't have a link, but Wizard of Oz is always fun...thats what I did in elementary school. I was an Emerald City Citizen (beaming with pride)

A kindergarten near us did the Three Pigs Opera this year. It even made the school system's local cable channel, and we watched it...it was adorable, and didn't look tooo challenging for the kids to be able to master.

There's a great "junior" musical called Schoolhouse Rock - and yes, it is the songs you remember. I saw a middle school do it and it was really fun. don't know about kindergarten though.

The Junior musicals are good but run about 600 dollars... Usually they are used in middle and high schools, because they come with the orchastra CD, music, everything... also they give licensing rights so you can charge for it... it is good, but probably not what you want for a kindergarten class.

I adapt a lot of plays for my kids. I have an adapted, short version of Annie, Grease, and You're a Good Man Charlie Brown. They run 15 minutes and include one musical number. I think I have a partial Mary Poppins and Alice in Wonderland, but they are in progress... if you want one, let me know with a PM and your email so I can send you the file. I have done mine with 2nd-6th graders. I don't think they are ideal for K...

Start by looking at www.popplersmusic.com Under the elementary music category there is a "christmas musical" and "spring musical" section. This is where I get a lot of my musicals for the year. You can order everything you need...dialogue, staging suggestions, practice/performance CD. I would STRONGLY recommend sticking to the ones that are labeled K-4 if you plan on only Kindergarteners doing them. The K-6 ones are okay if you are having older students help, but the lyrics are much less repetitive and harder for K-2 to memorize. Last year I did "A Race to the Finish" and it was really cute. I would also recommend "A Day in the Country". I plan on ordering "The Unity Tree" this year which looks cute.

These are other ones I would HIGHLY recommend for kinders. They have lots of repetition:

"The Three Billy Goats Gruff" http://www.clarusmusic.com/detail.a...it=&searchkwds=BILLY+GOATS&alpha=&kwd2=&kwd4=

    "The Little Red Hen" http://www.clarusmusic.com/detail.a...credit=&searchkwds=RED+HEN&alpha=&kwd2=&kwd4=

If you need any more help, let me know....I can give you staging and all sorts of advice on the above ones that I've done. My best advice is keep it very simple for that age group...I don't recommend Broadway yet!

Thank you, thank you! I found Clarus music after doing a search, but knowing that someone else has done them is always helpful! I will definitely keep your name and PM you if I decide to do those. Thank you again to everyone for all the help!
